Some alternate views of the infamous ollie shot by Daniel Harold Sturt in 1997.

So gnarly, glad it's still untouched by any other skater.

Damn I left my bubbler at my parents house

The shipping containers kinda set the scale. Looks like a little over half of one could fit into the gap. Something to take note of the next time you see one of those laying around.

But, the pin is there. Be ready to hop a barbed wire fence.

No disrespect to J. Wray, one of the best to ever do big stuff, but those photos do kind of make the gap look smaller than I thought.  I could see one of the new generation of dudes (Foy, Joslin, etc.) that do big things getting a trick on it if they wanted.

There's no real perspective there. Stick a human in the shot and it's gonna look wider. I reckon he took a great picture though, it looks higher than it is on the cover. You are still going to die however if you don't make it.

I think the clip where he runs and jumps gives it some perspective.......

My quick mockup probably isn't entirely accurate, but that's almost 7 boards at that angle.

32" board x 7 = 224" = 18.66 feet / 5.6 meters.

The world record long jump is a little over 29 feet / 8.95 meters

Side note: The photo isn't direct. Going through the footage of it now. The spot comparison thread from back in the day had the gap at 13 feet which was a wild guess ( http://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=95350.0 )

The straight on footage has 5.5 boards.

32" x 5.5 = 176" = 14.66 feet / 4.4 meters

Yeah there's a reason nobody has done jack shit over this gap since, YOU ARE LITERALLY GOING TO DIE if you don't make it across.

Quality thread thanks op. This Ollie is fucked and if you’re really gonna be the “so and so could do x over this or that” guy then remember as Shitbag said , you will literally die if you don’t make it over this particular gap. Legendary trick, let Wray have his props.

Edit: and by “you’re” I don’t mean you specifically OP just generalizing.

I'm on my phone and don't have a computer, but if you opened up that location in google earth pro (free program) you could just measure the actual length instead of doing this weird photoshop guesswork...

They've measured it before it was around 16-17 feet, don't remember exactly, I think the ride channel thing with Jordan Hoffart doing measure flat ollies was around 20-21 and he was bungeeing in.

In this interview he says they're 15 feet apart

Imagine all the footage Element could have gotten out of Wray, had they been actually interested in what the guy could offer. Those morons really blew it.
