Footloose 2024 Premise:
A 2X SOTY named Tyshawn Jones has moved from NYC to a small town in Montana where TikTok dancing has become illegal. This is due to the alt right blaming TikTok kids for getting “too funky” in the Nation’s Capital on January 6 and attempting to overthrow the government with the assistance of China, liberalism, socialism, communism, and rap music.
At first Tyshawn has a hard time fitting in but after he defiantly posts a TikTok video of himself dancing and nollie flipping over trash cans the video goes viral and he wins the admiration and respect of the local kids.
Two of Tyshawn’s new friends are Whokid (who Tyshawn teaches to dance) and Ariel (the daughter of the reverend Chuck Baldwin). The reverend fears that his impressionable daughter will dance at a college campus and start protesting the genocide in Palestine and become a China liberal socialist communist TikTokker or something.
Anyways, Ariel, Whokid, and Tyshawn organize an event to be held just past the state line at a water plant where they’ll live stream a synchronized dance routine. The movie culminates with Tyshawn kickflipping the water tower gap followed by the kids doing the “say so” dance and Michael Burnett giving him a third SOTY trophy.

Sheeeit, I remember when they had those insane "no dancing" ordinances in Texas and other various states.
I remember walking into a club once and if you started to even bob your head or tap your foot someone would come up to you and immediately tell you to stop. Basically bars/venues needed a specific type of "permit" in order for their patrons to be able to dance. It was bonkers to me.

This was their way of stopping "raves" and party culture since they were moving on from the warehouses and into more bar/club type venues.

Also whoever mentioned Georgio Moroder earlier in this thread. Holy shit, I'm going in on a listening rabbit hole tonight.

this is very strange in my eyes.... The US to me is one place where dancing is absolutely encouraged, it's just everywhere. Commercials, movies, all over pop culture basically. what's more american than cheerleaders?? that's dancing.
let me add disco was also a very euro thing: Giorgio Moroder, the Munich machine, Abba, Boney M.
and as for every music genre, some of it was brilliant, some was horrible. Super corny. as a young punker kid, I used to hate it with a passion, but some of those Donna Summer/Moroder records made me change my mind. That and Chic! Bernard Edwards was a monster on the bass.

Did you know Boney M was a lip-syncher?   Many years later, the same producer tried the same formula over (black lead singer who could dance, but not sing) and came up with Milli Vanilli

It’s crazy how few people seem to talk about this. Somehow 50 years later the trope of “disco sucks” still echoes from time to time. Glad to see someone bringing that fact up. There’s a whole thing about how gangster rap was a psi op to discourage and debase the Afrocentric movement in early 90’s hip hop but I feel like that’s more widely known.

I’m always amused that in the NWA biopic, Fuck The Police was borne out of an instance of severe, systemic police injustice, but in reality, it’s because they got in trouble with the cops after driving down the freeway paintballing cars
