I walk duck-footed and just started skating. Looking for advice
« on: October 03, 2018, 10:49:47 AM »
I guess it's not that big of a deal, but i walk a bit duck-footed. Like my toes point outwards. So when I push, it kind of twists my ankle because my foot isn't straight. It doesn't hurt that bad but it's always sore and it's inconvenient as fuck. Any advice on working on straightening my foot out?
Yall mind if I hit that y e e t?

Have you tried having straighter bones?

this guy is crazy duck-footed and I think it really helps him with his big spins.

I don't know if this relates to your problem, but I put gel spacers in between my big toes and second toes because I have pretty mean bunions on both feet and it straightens out my big toes that want to point away. It seems to help me with balance and pushing, not to mention less pain and supposedly it slows the worsening of bunions.

Ugh. Thanks to this thread, I realized that I'm definitely that: duck footed. I'm feeling like a teen who just saw the "virgin walk" meme for the first time. Now I'll be conscious of my gait forever. Thanks, I guess.

in england we call this having "flat feet", pretty easy to correct if you just wear some inserts for a month or two...

do you have insurance? you can see a foot and ankle specialist about it, get some xrays, figure out what kind of insole/insert to wear

at the orthotics lab where I work, we do manufacture orthotics called gait-plates that can induce in-toeing or out-toeing. I suppose the in-toeing type essentially forces you to correct the duck walk. a cheaper way to deal with it would be by adjusting your hip or knee angles when you're pushing, which will definitely ease up on your ankle and possibly give you reverse-Gilby legs.

Lots of water and good food.  I wouldn't do the inserts cause you're whole body especially your back will become dependant on them - which does benefit the people who make and sell them but it's a sham ultimately.  Imo
