Dusty spot but I've been waxing and grinding this curb for a long time now. It's in a parking lot that's empty at about 8 pm and well lit through the evening so it's perfect for a late slappy sesh.

This is the curb I've been waxing for a year now, they're smoother than the gravely ones you're talking about. I know the slanted ones, but they're only nice for boardslides tbh. Might be worth it to create something, but it's probably gonna cost a lot of rub bricks to make it skateable. At that point you're probably better of making your own curb out of concrete or the wooden ones with a rail on top.

yeah i've been thinking of making a parking block. theres this emply patch of asphalt in the park behind my house that used to be a football cage.  its pretty rough but it wont bother anyone there. and might be able to make more if i got the mold right and drop one at the skatepark.
i know someone that made 2 curbs a while ago, those work great. told him about the bus stops and he found a really nice abandoned one in the city he's from. it's one of those sectioned off ones near a station so there's no cars driving there at all.

Might just do the same thing, while I appreciate the spot I have now, a double sided curb that slides well is nowhere to be found in my area. Let me know if you succeed if you decide to DIY something, very curious about the process.

I haven't used it on a curb yet, but I got this to use on my next curb project. Just remember to wear protection for eyes and nose from dangerous dust.

This stand alone curb is about a 30 second push from my driveway. Been tempted to lacquer the whole thing one of these nights and slappy board slide this thing all day.

Main thing holding me back is it's unskateable during my normal skate hours, cause I'm an old guy morning skater. Would have to do evenings, and my family has a pretty good monopoly on those hours

You don’t think the missus would appreciate standing around in a parking lot? Make it a family function

Here's the curb I'm hanging out at in Munich. The ground's really smooth and the curb has the perfect height and angle to just pop you up. A 10/10 curb spot, treasures like it are rare in this world.

What would ya all say is the perfect height for a curb?

Most curbs in Germany/Europe are a bit taller as in the USA, right?

All the same spot. Sucks the double sided isn't very good (yet) and that the sidewalks are fucking ROUGH as fuck, 97a spits makes them almost skateable so no manuals :\ only smooth part is where the handicapped ramps are (yellow bumps as well).

It's a filthy spot from the high turn over of cars, shows get dirty AF.

Newly lacquered and bondo'd but doesn't look like a brick was taken to it, but it grinds fast at a hard angle (think of doing a shit slappy where your wheels are still on the ground, that's the angle you have to take) just not on top

For me, perfect height is just slightly above the level of my feet when I'm standing on the board. Basically, not so short that it's free, but not so tall that it's hard.

Regarding curb height in the US vs Europe, I'd say curbs in the EU are, maybe, slightly lower than the us. It's hard to say exactly since curb height varies so much everywhere. I will say that, when I was in Jersey, I met a few curbs that blurred the line between curb and ledge, but I haven't found that here.

oh that pretty hard since i never measured a curb. tho i believe the avarage Dutch curb is lower than what i seen from the US. but the almost no curbs grind here anyway. and is really just depends on the street. theyre usually rectangle blocks and it just depends how far they dug them in.
the one is skate is about 8'' i guess, but that one is about twice as tall as all the ungrindable curbs around where i live here

i'd say straight curbs maybe 5" is the best for me, but sloped crubs can easily be higher.

Santa Monica, CA (10 min skate from my place)

It wasn't used much, then Stoner closed (Covid) and it became hot (hence the perfect curb wear). It's usage has tapered off some tho.

Really!? I work in the Santa Monica Business Park. I'm for sure gonna just go there after work and skate until traffic dies down next time - commute time back to Long Beach SUCKS.

In Switzerland we don‘t have grindable curbs (I tried it, believe me  - they slide but don’t grind) and until lately, parking blocks were unheard of. Now some American style parking blocks show up but mostly unlacquered. I have one spot with painted parking blocks but can only use it on Sundays as it is in front of a post office and always busy when the post office is open.

That‘s why I come here for curb porn. Keep it coming lads.
why come?

@TastyBurrito

The old Activision office area on Ocean Park? DMV closes at 5pm, lot is usually empty at 5:30 (enough to skate; I tend to hit it around 5:45/6:00 you never know if you'll get a grumpier DMV employee than usual + plus cars driving around).

On weekends, especially early you get a few people teaching others how to drive (why they choose to do it here...DMV or not, I have no idea as they don't ever use the layout the way the actual DMV instructors do).

Hit me up via a DM if you want to skate!

Yep! Right on Ocean Park. I’d skate the curbs there but security already yelled at me for waxing a dry red curb  ;D

Awesome that it’s cleared by then. I’m usually off between 5-6pm and am happy I can kick there and skate for a bit. And for sure I’ll ping you next time I’m in the office.

I forgot to take a photo, but someone has taken a grinder to a local curb and intentional or not made it grind like pool blocks. It takes a second to get used to but after that it’s a blast.

If it’s a deterrent to stop skating it, it’s done the opposite

Went by this evening on my ride home. Between yesterday and today they’ve knobbed the outledge curb that you could drop down to another parking lot, RIP

The others are still good to go so far
