Omg there so much bullshit in this episode about “the lord”
Could be worse tho, like Brian Sumner on the All I Need podcast.

Are there actually skaters who will watch a 4 hour interview? I thought America had no attention span. How is it that this show keeps getting longer & longer?

apparently you don't have much of an attention span yourself.  the thread alone suggests yes.

I've always had a place in my heart for him. I remember buying one of the first Firm boards that came out (even though the shape was kinda not great), and I had a girl tell me she crushed on me because my eyebrows reminded her of Lance...

But I zone out on the god stuff...and that is all on me. I get that he isn't preaching and trying to convert or anything but it just loses me when people do talk about it. I feel bad because I really try to be accepting of so much. I guess I've seen so many dishonest, hypocritical people of faith that I just don't wanna hear it anymore.

one of my favorite possessions from childhood is a signed poster from a flip/the firm tour. it has signatures from everyone on the tour, including lance.

As someone with a pretty big disdain for religion, some of y’all are so closed minded about others’ beliefs. His references to God were a footnote at best, and in no way was he being aggressive about his beliefs.

Lance has been a god botherer forever and there’s been no secret about it. Yet, in a nearly 4 hour long talk he talks about “the lord” for 10 mins max. That’s pretty good for a bible basher. I found it really easy to ignore such a small, insignificant part of an epic episode.

I feel like I was at least self aware enough to know that it the problem was with me, not him for talking about it. I totally get that is part of who he is and so of course it's gonna come up in this sort of conversation. I just zoned out a little. He's still a great dude in my eyes. Unless he voted for Trump.

i wont hate on it though because the point of an interview is to get a feel for what type of person the interviewee is, and you deff get a vibe of who he is from this.

You're wrong. He has one little rant about, then mentions praying a couple of times in passing, mentions fucking up The Firm's finances by giving a cut of his sales to the lord. You're blowing it if you think it was more than that.

i don't see what the big deal is. just be comfortable with your own atheism and don't let the dudes belief in god bother you. i'd totally understand some hate if he's pushing some evangelical agenda.. but hes not preaching anything. the guys just talking about his life. i may not share his view but he's definitely not the religious type i have problems with.

lance is sick
Let me preface this post with the fact that I am slightly inebriated, very uneducated and I havent read any papers or done any research at all, or read your post really.

He seems a little too hard on himself. "I single handedly ruined Independent" "Ran Firm to the ground" 15 year lifespan is a pretty big achievement for a skateboarding company. Maybe he's joking, but he seems to put himself down alot.

So was it Peralta or World who would get 13 year olds hookers? Seems like a Rocco move but I couldn't tell and can't find the timestamp from earlier.

Lance is a blessing. Such a great dude.

Interesting that Lance and Ray Barbee are still so candid about their faith while Jamie Thomas never mentions it anymore.

Seemed like Rocco because he cited that as a reason why he wasn’t down with World, and also he was always psyched to be on Bones Brigade and he had a lot of respect for the way Peralta did shit.

Wasn’t totally trying to single you out, but it is wild to me that in a 4 hour interview with someone like Lance Mountain how THAT is the takeaway. And it happens with pretty much any skateboarder who happens to believe in God, even if the only time they discuss it is when someone else asks about it. I don’t think I would have even known Chad Tim-Tim was a Christian if it weren’t for this site.

The only thing I would add is that after watching this and seeing how almost painfully humble Lance is (which I think is probably a byproduct of his Christianity), I wonder what his skating would have been like without that self-effacing sort of mentality. Though, it is probably very likely that this is how he is just wired and that is what works for him.

What a great episode; Lance is such an interesting guy.

I feel like his dad explains a lot of his lovable odd-ball personality.  Also, I knew he was a Christian, but I never realized just how religious he is.  I wonder if there are any other dudes in skating that do the strict 10% tithe.

I can’t believe they didn’t bring up hosting 411, especially with Kelly being a 411 fanboy.  I was hoping he’d talk about how he got the gig or some behind-the-scenes stories.

This made me really want John Lucero and Steve Rocco to do the show.
When nothing in society deserves respect, we should fashion for ourselves in solitude new silent loyalties.
