I sand the edges down no matter the brand, just to get it smoov so it won't peel up right away; edges get shredded anyway tho. I never do that to the top, tired it once and fucked it up (removed too much grip).

You need to treat it like you treat your women: slow and gentle.  Soft cooing sounds seem to help as well.

Well I guess some like it fast and hard. Also I advise to sand down the area around the nose very very lightly so that your grip thumb won't be that bad. I bled once from brand new mob grip tape.

Lately I've been having issues regarding glue on the nose and tail. Could be because is still kinda cold in here I guess.

Has there been a bad batch of MOB recently? Last sheet I got had problems with the adhesive not staying stuck down. It would pop back up leaving like a bubble right where the nose starts to curve up. I ended up ripping it off and just applying some Jessup.

So this is my second board that got the griptape perfectly applied but for some reason, the second griptape also has bubbles. I never had any issues in the past with any griptapes (went with jessup in the past, wanted to try something new) so i wonder what the deal is with Mob?

Mob issues? Yeah I've got one issue with it; it's £6.

But seriously, just do it yourself or get a buddy with knows his or her way around the brittle backed tape that is Mob to grip it for you.
I'm going to argue that Placebo owes their entire career to a Canadian dude's skate video part. Appleyard should be getting royalties for this shit.

Had this exact thing happen yesterday. The few times I've ever used mob it never wants to stick right and always peels off.

Ok good to know it's not just me then. I've been applying grip for years and don't remember that ever happening. Looking forward to trying the new Jessup Ultragrip when it becomes more available.

1 out of 5 times Mob works without a hitch, every other time it peels, cuts weird, or bubbles/creases. I have to assume it's made for perfect California climate or something. I can apply Jessup in my sleep at this point, problem being I skate decks forever and Jessup necessitates a re-grip at least once. Also looking forward to the new Ultragrip.

I decided to re-grip (which I never do, but this thing was still very fresh) a Habitat that I skated a few months back with Jessup today (because I've been using Jessup pretty much since I stopped riding the aforementioned deck) and I was able to peel off the entire sheet of Mob almost entirely intact. Had the same issues with the grip popping up at the start of the kicks at the nose/tail as mentioned here. I've never had any issue with Mob until this year, not that I'm all that bummed, but it's interesting that this isn't an isolated incident.

I got Mob free with a couple decks and I've been having issues with it peeling on some spots at the edges even with careful filing and sanding. Not even just like the curvy spots where it sometimes gets stretched out, I'm talking like mid-rail. I guess maybe they switched up the adhesive or something cuz I've never had issues with it in the past (mostly m80) I just didn't use it much because it devours shoes.

And here I thought it was just because I suck at gripping decks.

I've only used Mob two times, the first sheet (last spring) was great and the second (january this year) I just couldn't get nice edges on. The bad sheet seemed thicker and brittle, I'd agree that it seems like there's been a bad batch out.

Genuinely curious, when/where was this? My neck of the woods it's been Jessup since the late 90's.

Yeah, where I'm from Black Magic was expensive and unnecessary. Honestly don't know anyone that ever used it. Jessup has been the gear in Australia for as long as I can remember.

I was all about Black Magic back in the day. Whatever happened to it? I recently started skating again after being off my board about 4 years and all the sudden I can't find it anywhere.

Tried Mob m80 on a board fairly recently, both purchased from a local. Fresh batch of grip, too. Gripped, brought it home and it sat there for a day. Went to set it up, adhesive properties became non existent and I pulled the entire sheet off with barely any struggle. Top ply wasn’t even sticky after pulling it off.

Got regular Mob, adhesive worked but left a crease/wrinkle on my nose that never laid down. Swore off Mob. Grabbed regular Jessup for my next board, always reliable. Nope, my edges are melting off from the slightest scrapes. And yeah, I know how to score, slice, and sand the edges properly. Might just have to revisit black magic now?

I have a box with a sheet of bm waiting for me when I get off work in an hour or so. I dunno if there's something fucky with jessup too but one of my last 2 sheets kept tearing even with steady pressure and angle when pulling on the knife and peeling in spots after sanding. I chalked it up to using an old blade and half assing it but this thread is making me wonder.

It is kind of weird that one of the better sheets I've had lately was $4 fake grizzly from wish. It cut like ass but so did everything else so that's probably the blade or me but it hasn't peeled at all and it's holding up reasonably well to abuse so far.

I loved Black Magic back in the day, only thing is it killed your shoes so fast.

Iron Horse was great too, never had any problems, wish they’d still be around.

Don’t like MOB at all. First, the two times I had it, it didn’t stick well to the board, also a bitch to apply because it’s so stiff. You get a tiny fold in it and it’ll crack. Second, it’s way too grippy at first and ends up really slippery after a week... it’s good for like 2 or 3 sessions. Both times I ended up re-gripping with Jessup. Very easy to peel off.

I always keep a few sheets of Jessup on hand. I’ve been to shops that only had MOB and I really needed a board. I don’t care if it’s free, it’s not going on my board.

Jessup is perfect for me.

Local shop owner said he’s laid quite a few sheets of that new plain black Grizzly (without the bear or font) on a few kids’ boards and has never had a sheet of grip apply so easily without bubbles and slice like butter. He’s been in business for decades and has probably gripped thousands of boards, so that says something. Think I’ll try that next if there’s no black magic available. He did mention it costing way too much for a sheet but at this point I’m willing to pay the extra.

Also, that crease pictured above is exactly what I was talking about ^

This is now like the third time I've heard this. I'd be willing to give the plain a go. I've read that it's in between Jessup and Mob as far as grip, but how does it last?

You can get Black Magic for $6 a sheet from TGM. Free shipping on all orders and they're quick about it - usually same day.

Iron Horse is still around too. I got some of their hardware the other day - cheap, chalky, and smelled like rust but it does the trick. SOP is the distributor. Never tried their grip but if its anything like the hardware I'm not in a hurry to either.

Good to know about Iron Horse. I remember it being good grip tape, but we’re talking 12-15 years ago... I don’t know about today.
