The Quasi twin is BBS, and it pretty much stands alone as the only other 8.3 twins are the DLX and Habitat both of which are longer in WB and length, with the DLX just a hair narrower with similiar shape kicks and the habitat being super long and square kicks.

Thanks for the info, it's a shame twins are so limited. I thought it was BBS but the few remaining stores with stock in my country say PS Stix. Will chalk that up to classic accudental skate store misinformation given the mixed woodshops they use.

I've been on a Habitat twin and it was way too much of a tank for me. The Quasi is close enough to perfect but there are not many available. I'm thinking I'd rather slightly change dims rather than go back to directional decks.

Is that just as far as 8.3s go? Is there anything in 8.25-8.5", 14-14.25wb, mellowish realm that could be similar?

Depends on if you like your kicks tails or noses or hybrids The Quasi is a twin tail, like the DLX.

The two best 8.25/14.25" WB I've ridden have been the Deathwish Foy and Santa Cruz McCoy (specifically the McCoy on them  SC-365 shape, not the other one that is 8.2) and they're very different even tho the shape and dimensions are damn near 1:1; Foy is mellower/rounded and the McCoy is a bit steeper and ever so slightly narrower in the kicks but not so much as it would throw you off. I easily transition from the Foy to the SC.

After riding multiple Quasi and DLX twins, I find I prefer the other offerings out there. Do wish there was an 8.3 option that was more 'normal' (and not pressed at BBS).

Seconded on the SC McCoy twin shape, steep and tapered kicks but still a very nice ride. Habitat / AWS are steep with a fuller kick, tanky but they play nice with Ventures.

Yeah it was the SC 8.4 McCoy, was on a bit of an Indy trip and did 149 TI and 149 Mid Hollow Forged.

Now I'm back on my usual 8.38 / 8.5 AWS or Habitat with 5.8 TI.

Tom Asta posted a video with his new twin sample shape.

8.2” width
6.7” nose/tail
14” wheelbase
31.6” length

https://youtu.be/tBxiZ8sW9Rg?si=ufCWhMd1jSn3RvJZ

Edit: Added some screen grabs of the shape. I’m skating a Girl G069 now and will probably pick one of these up when they come out.

I’m for sure getting one of Asta’s new shape when it comes out. I’ve been wanting to size up from an 8 to 8.25 and also try a twin shape. Currently riding one of Asta’s 8 inch taper tips and it’s great. I think his new shape checks all the boxes for me. Hopefully it’s hitting the shelves around the holidays when I’m probably going to be needing new trucks and wheels I can to go full Christmas complete.

Now I'm back on my usual 8.38 / 8.5 AWS or Habitat with 5.8 TI.

That 8.4 (SC-390) is the same shape family as the 8.2 Asta (SC-391) - tapered/pointy kicks and 32" long

The other McCoy/Asp shape is the one I found to be 'normal' shape-wise. SC-365/SC-365-VX (rounded/full kicks, like DW/AH and 31.8 long).

Has anyone skated the DLX egg 9.12 shape?

I have seen it around, as per link below, which is stated to have the same kicks, but nowhere it says is a twin shape, so I am guessing it is a normal press board, different kicks just the same length.

The Generator GFB shape also 9.1 egg is also in that category, maybe a twin or at least has the same 6.6 kicks, but it has slightly different dimensions, 14.38 wb and under 32 in length, so guessing it was slightly different from the go but is fairly similar overall though.

I haven't skated it or seen it but Dad Board did a video about it and said it was symmetrical.

It is symmetrical as far as i can tell. Can make photos and measure kick angles etc after work. I am on my second one. It is really a great shape. Love the concave angles and everything. I still wish there was a version slimmed down by 0.2-0.3 and with a tiny bit longer tails, since they get to feel kinda small after a few weeks of usage or with bigger wheels. But still almost perfect deck. I do skate it for mostly semi tech ledge stuff and it is great with with ace af1 55 and Indy 159. I think I would not like it with Ventures, since i pretty sure that the tails would feel tiny for me.

Thanks!

I guess the main thing, when you stand on it either way, if it feels the same, then that's all that matters.

At least with any of those kind of boards that might need a little more length in the kick department, I can use the double drilled Indy or Venture baseplates on it too, which sometimes works better than expected on some boards more so than others.

The DLX board is a 14.5 wb so that would work well to use 1/4" drilled in baseplates as needed too.

* I also thought if you did see the DLX version around over there where you are, it might work out cheaper than paying for shipping for the GFB shape board, but that was just something that would depend on whether that shape would work or it is actually available where you are too.

I’ve skated the Generator GFB shape and was curious about the DLX 9.125” as well.

Had a friend send me a top pic of the DLX board and it appears to taper a lot more at the nose and tail.  Looked super narrow.

He also said it was pretty narrow.

Re DLX 9.1 egg shape

Yeah, that is what I am feeling about it.

It is a fun shape but a little too pointy in the kicks, which are definitely twin / symmetrical in shape, size, etc.

Just chipping in to say I've been on the Primitive 8.5 twin for the past 5 weeks, and I'm about to pull the trigger on another 3 of 'em.  Loving this shape just as much as the Welcome twins.

The Primitive twin I'm on now has the number stamp and 'made in USA' sticker and it's holding up so much better than the many BBS Welcome decks I've had.  It still has a good-sounding solid pop and has next to no chipping or 'crumbling' that the Welcome decks would have at this age.  Dunno what woodshop made it, but I'm diggin' it for sure.  Gotta stock up on these.

I finally got my hands on the Ishod 8.75 after looking for one for months. Cross post from the set-up thread:

I was a little scared of the 32.66 length 14.66 wheelbase, especially in combination with Ventures, but I'm very happy to report that it skates more nimbly than expected. Feels like a slightly bigger version of the 8.5 Ishod, which to me means just right. I'm very curious if this was a one-off or if they bring the shape back in future drops. I'd definitely stack up on 'em if I get the chance.

Dear twin tail folks, I'm looking for a birthday gift for a friend, specifically an 8.5" twin tail, rather full shape (if possible), medium concave, 14.25" WB (WB not set in stone though). I would appreciate any suggestions!

How is the concave and kick steepness? I'm looking for a twin with mellow kicks and concave.

Standard BBS concave. Feels like most DLX boards. No I through IV stamps on these but the ones I got seem like IVs. So on the mellower side for BBS.

Dear twin tail folks, I'm looking for a birthday gift for a friend, specifically an 8.5" twin tail, rather full shape (if possible), medium concave, 14.25" WB (WB not set in stone though). I would appreciate any suggestions!

Listings say the WB is 14.28 but I've ridden a few (5?) and it's always been 14.25 (except twice, once shorter, once longer); listings also say 31.875 / 32" when it's actually 31.75" or more. Always 'close enough' to not sweat it.

Thanks, that looks good. Couldn't find one in Germany though...

Blue Tomato still has it:

https://www.blue-tomato.com/de-DE/product/Deathwish-JF+Only+Dreaming+Twin+8+5+Skateboard+Deck-734029/?varid=305303700

Bought from them a couple of times with shipping to Denmark, without any issues and with free shipping. They also have the Santa Cruz 8.4 twin tail by the way, which is my current favorite shape I think (edit: that has kinda pointy kicks though):

The Deathwish 8.5 is also great though (and has better graphics!).

Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

I skate my boards backward usually, so I'd like the twin tail more than I did. I had the ishod 8.3. It just felt wide and short, but I skated really good on it. It was probably all in my head.
but the tail is so small, you just cant flick right.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not a big fan of Blue Tomato and 95€ is indeed a bit steep for a deck in my opinion, but I'll keep this in mind.

If anybody has other ideas, I'd be happy to hear them!
