Skatemenu has one for Cruzade

just picked up that Roger Jason Thompson Twin and i didnt realize it was 14" wb until i got in the car. I had a 8.5 x 14" anti hero on indy forged and wasnt super feeling it but i think that was mostly because i didnt like how tapered it was. im thinking maybe if i put my lurpivs on here it could fix the ghost pop issue i was having with those trucks. was goiong to switch it for a gx1000 board but maybe i should give this a try

I liked that board (first one they put out with wheel wells), the WB didn't throw me off as much as I thought it would (long kicks, see below) but I did end up putting thunders, then ventures on it. What bugged me was the kicks weren't the same length. Hopefully that isn't an issue anymore. The HLC  wood was very snappy too.

Finally the kick shape I've been looking for on a twin...now to figure out how to make that short WB work...guess it's venture time (but maybe slappy lows + some 50mmm lil'smokies) - it has long kicks like the regular primitive 8.25 (same shape as it is) so any truck might work.

Here is the post with the Palace board anyway:

Forgot to take a pic when new but trying something weird, and for the most part I quite like it.

Palace 8.375 (the dumb one with the absurdly long 14.81 wheelbase, 32 length, and tiny kicks)
Venture v8 5.8 with both trucks in v8 mode, makes the proportions actually quite reasonable
Spitfire f4 classic 99a 54mm
Quantum Isotopes
Pepper grip

Will rant about it in gear madness/venture thread later
[close]
[close]

Shit of course I want some impossible complete to skate... The gear madness is pretty crazy if the solution is to buy new trucks instead of finding the right board..  ;D

I remember having some AWS deck that had really steep kicks is it still the same?

And yeah HLC at least here in europe is on the thicker side. I know many people who like their boards but for me they look lower quality than the other staple manufacturers.

Got some HLC twins coming this Friday, setting it up for the weekend, I'll report back on first impressions.

Got the HLC (I think), no stickers on them:
8.5 x 32 x 14.25
8.25 x 31.875 x 14.25

Popsicle tips, slightly more taper than AWS twins, similar to Clutch shape (Thank You).

Yep, that'll do nicely.  So crisp and snappy, BBS wood feels sloppy in comparison.  I picked up another 2 for the backlog.

Once you get used to DSM wood, it's really hard to go back...everything feels waterlogged/dead..like a 2 week old PSSTIX board. Worried about near-future pricing tho...not sure how  small teams like Opera and Jacuzzi will fare.

Interesting they skipped 8.25s since that's the most popular size

Do most of you guys have a decent switch/nollie/fakie bag of tricks?

I was on the twins for a while, but eventually I just felt like my bag of tricks didn't really justify riding a twin. In fact, I actually like the asymmetry on a regular shape for certain things.

I did enjoy not worrying about which direction my board was facing though when throwing down though, that was nice.

No hate at all to all the twin riders out here, I'm just curious.

My nollie tricks are non existent outside of 180s and big spins and basic ledge tricks but I still like a twin. Not having to to worry about which side to throw down is nice, but madness has been creeping in enough to consider a regular popsicle and sizing down. Having 1 tip more worn down than the other (because of said lack of Nollie tricks) would bug me, hence sticking to twins.

Not a big bag at all, but I like the even wear (trucks and wheels too) of the kicks and being able to just throw it down and not think about makes it worth it; they're also great for curb skating if you do a lot of dancing/in and out tricks for a 3-4 piece.

Looking at it the other way, do you have enought tricks to warrant NOT riding a twin and needing a smaller tail/bigger nose with different degrees of kick/length?

Yea, I feel like my skating is asymmetrical so an asymmetrical board suits it. I'm better at popping with my right leg and flicking with my left.

I rode a bunch of the dlx 8.3 14.4 WB twins and ultimately found that I liked the asymmetrical dlx 8.38 14.5 WB I was previously riding better. I def skate better on it.

I tried one of the 8.5 dlx twins (14.5wb I think?) and I hated it so much I gave it away after a sesh and a half.

It seems like a symmetrical board would lend itself to someone with a more well rounded bag of tricks than I, which is why I asked.

I would say so. Not that i’m actually good, but i tend to skate equally switch/nollie. Really enjoyed not having constantly to turn my board around. Only thing yet to achieve is consistent switch tres. Used to have them better than regular ones but TT feels too pointy to get proper backfoot position.

Yea, that checks out. I assumed most twin guys were in that boat.

Interesting bit about the sw tres there.

I've never had that trick though, no matter the shape haha.

They're all so different for the most part but the DLX twins are my least favorite and that recent Baker twin...tiny tails, long wheelbase. Some days I do miss the quicker snap of shorter or normal 'tail' for ollies.

Riding the Heroin 9.0 (8.5 over trucks, 14.125wb) Zane double shovel, thing is a fucking blast.

Yea, before I put my hands/eyes on that jacopo baker twin I was excited to try it. But the actual dimensions were all smaller than the advertised dimensions. Length, width, and wheelbase all smaller in person.

And yeah those kicks were TINY! I guess it works for him on aces, but jeez. Seemed wildly short to me.

Are twin noses prominent yet?

Twin shapes other then egg and shovel would be cool, like fish tail or asymmetrical horizontally

I think they sort of came in and then didn't quite do as well, mainly thinking about the twin nose Neen shape, which was crazy long.  Might have been 7.1 kicks and ended up almost or right on about 33 total length.

Maybe when they changed the terminology to twin kicks, rather than twin noses, things got a little more low key but some boards do have longer kicks, eg the Girl / Chocolate twins have 6.8 kicks, which equates to nose length on some boards.

The new Nicole Hause twins have longer kicks than tails, so that could be thought of as twin noses although they don't call them that.  She specifically wanted longer kicks as she said she often rode the nose as the tail in the past.  I think they are also 6.8 or something long.

Grimple did a 10" egg shape which had 7" kicks too, now I think about it.

Twin tails usually means shorter kicks, twin kicks usually means longer, twin noses means very long, but I guess brands and people often just refer to them as twin shapes now, to save having a very specific label on them.

* The Real Ishod twins always feel too short to me, even the 8.5 that I have, but I am more used to longer kicks, especially longer noses, so I don't really qualify for twin talk so much anyway, but the DLX 9.1 twin egg I find works nicely with double drilled forged Indy baseplates, so it brings the wb in from 14.5 to 14.0 and is lots of fun now with 6.75 kicks.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I have been interested in Twin for awhile but never pulled the trigger cause never found one i liked. didnt want small kicks, but the twin noses seemed way too long overall.

Got this Roger Ryan Thomspon Twin, but I havent set it up yet:

Size   8.5
Width (in):   8.5
Length (in):   31.75
Wheelbase (in):   14.0
Nose Length (in):   6.78
Tail Length (in):   6.78

the 8.38 Primitive boards I have been riding the past while seem to be the same overall length, so it doesnt look like its too short standing on it. kicks seem the size I was looking for.

going to set this up on LURPIVs to push the WB out more
hopefully doesnt feel ghost poppy

Set that up with a single piece of grip with no indicator bolts.  Embrace your choice, behold the wonder that is a completely symmetrically worn out deck.

Opera twins are very close to those dims, BTW.
