If you can put up with their graphics Jart and Plan B twins are also from HLC. HLC decks are a nice middle of the road deck - concave, kick steepness, nose/tail shape, dimensions are all medium.

I do want to stick with HLC though. Shit's really good for me. Looks like ima have to wait. Can't find a Jart 8.25 in the US. I like that new Sour twin but the 8.25 I only saw at Skate Warehouse and it sold quick. Habitat if still HLC sounds like their shape is a boat and I probably wouldn't like it. Don't they have a bit more concave?

That leaves Roger and Sk8Mafia, which in the past did several twins. Or if there's a shop twin out there from HLC/if Cowtown reups but sounds like they won't soon. Shop employee in April told me HLC was backed up and they might try another distro for their blanks.

Roger and Sk8Mafia are also HLC, but Roger is out of business and Sk8mafia twins are seasonal.

Habitat / AWS were BBS or China, medium high concaves with full-ish tips, very long. Not sure if they've changed woodshops with the recent change of ownerships of the Sect brands.

I am still waiting on my Apex TT sample, that shape and the new Q shape have been hot, so samples are hard to come by from them currently.

The Habitat boards were the same as the Alien Workshop I saw, both BBS, but they were big and steep and long, so yes definitely a boat.  They had also used DSM for some boards but whether that made it to you guys there, I don't know.

Not sure for us now with future drops but I think they are still BBS in USA, although it seems they are going with other options for elsewhere, now under different distribution and all that going on.


Also it makes sense - HLC being very popular for cheaper locally produced wood in the US, as other woodshops are getting more expensive, every dollar adds up, so they could easily be unable to keep up with demand.


I know it has been said before, but people have been saying the Baltimore Board option is also good.  Twins in 8.0, 8.25 and 8.5 according to their online info, as per the Fast Freddie post back up this page a bit.

Baltimore Board Brewery recently switched to a different print shop for their transfers and they take a tad longer to produce, but quality is much better.

Also, they can get twins in either twin nose or tail all the way up to 9" etc, however may need to do a minimum for special orders like that...

I got few twins from BBB. Never had to any special order limits, as long as they were in stock.

As far as print quality goes. They're old Transfers were thin. You could see the wood grain pattern through the graphic thin. Especially if you used white. It's one of those things that most people will never notice or care, but still i appreciate the update. I'm still sitting on 2 BBB boards.

I talked a lot with BBB guys, really legit people over there. If I ever need a one-off they will be tops of my list for sure.
Also, I am curious about the trucks they are/were pushing, Green I think was the brand.

Guy at Vu said their twins have more concave than BBS and called them "medium," but to me that sounds like it'd land on the medium-high end of my chart as I want the flatter concave HLC/ Girl (China)/Toy boards.

Yeah, I would describe them as mellow but certaillt not flat

They will be exactly the same as Vu decks.  The side to side (width) concave is definitely more than a BBS, kicks/spoon/shape are very similar & deck is ever so slightly thicker. 
IMHO, the BBB (South Central) decks are a tad stiffer than BBS decks as well, and tend to not sog out as quickly.

8.25 Real 14”WB twin nose
It’s been feeling good, i want to stick with twin noses for a while.

I really liked the feel of the shape on this board but the wood felt soggy by week two. The board broke today. But the flex on it by week two was pretty crazy.
Only getting 6 weeks out of a board is a bit of bummer for paying full price.
I saw a P Rod produce twin nose but they were tapered noses and I really like the double shovel nose. I used to always preferred the tapered nose until I tried a twin nose that was a shovel style.
I set up a lightly used enjoi deck that I had and it feels so small with a tapered nose as smaller tapered tail even though it’s also an 8.25.
Idk if I want to order another Real deck but maybe I’ll try to find that same Opera deck again.

^ Same reason I haven't bought a Real since 2021. Granted it was the first Ishod stacked car deck I'd been on but it crapped out... real... quick.

Again, this is why I prefer the BBB (South Central) twins... BBS wood seems to sog out quickly to me.

After learning of them through this thread I ended up getting two South Central twin blanks back in ~Apr 2025 through BBB, one 8.25 twin nose (left), one 8.25 twin tail (right), both 14.25 wb. I really enjoyed skating both, and had intended to stock up on a few more but moved away from the east coast before I had a chance to do so conveniently.

In general, the boards feel ever so slightly thicker than BBS/etc., maybe a touch heavier, but didn't really notice after a session or two. Probably helps keep them from sogging out. The ends of their bottom-plies were also slightly less rounded than most other boards I've had, which (optimistically speaking) gives a lil more time pre-razor tail. The twin nose/tail shapes were overall very similar to each other, but tails a little less fully-shaped, slightly shorter, and slightly steeper than the noses. Maybe tough to tell on worn-board pics. There really wasn't much adjustment to be had when I switched from one to the other.

Just me or does the right pic (twin tail) look like you could skate it as a mini ramp on fingerboard got dam that's some concave

I think the cuts in the twin tail griptape might make the concave appear more pronounced than the twin nose, but they feel the same. Perhaps one saw more jumping than the other.

I have one too. Its 8.5 x 14.25. Can't wait to set it up. gonna put T2s on it. I really like the HLC one that I have at 14" wb with Lurpiv so this should line up similar. I just set that up a few weeks ago so it could be awhile before i set that one up.

i compared to a primitive 8.38 wade board i have from china and the steepness of the control board matched the steepness of the nose (tail was very mellow). concave was on the medium / flatter side of both decks i'd say. should feel nice on the feet. i dont notice a massive difference in having the concave super steep for making the flip tricks go faster. we'll find out.

If they are four to a press or similar, as per other older woodshops, then that could easily account for the slight differences in concave.

Same press but the top board will always be a bit more, the bottom board a bit less.


Most woodshops still have the older presses, which are usually single or at most double stack multi board big solid things, compared to the newer more streamlined presses that have up to eight or so single press molds on the same stack.

I don't know enough about most of the smaller woodshops, but very few have the newer technology, unless they had a huge overhaul or have just started more recently.
