Shoes with the longest-lasting outsoles?
« on: July 08, 2019, 05:51:21 AM »
I've been blowing through the soles of my shoes lately, particularly the ball and big toes of my feet where I pivot pushing/setting up. Trying to be lighter on my feet, but can anyone recommend me shoes with long-lasting outsoles?

Currently skating some Dunks that seem to be holding up really really well, but I'd love to find something a little less bulky.

Yea if you like dunks, I would also say just get some AJ1s.

Dc legacy slims have last me almost too long. And they don’t look too wild.
The Jordan recommendation is good.
Nb 868s have a pebble attracting sole, but they last and last and last and skate well.
Did you ever skate the af-1s?

You can also look for the Ishod or decon dunks. I'm not sure if they are moving forward with production on those.

I personally like the puffy dunks but I think it would be really smart for SB to make thinner and puffier ones at the same time and clearly label the different models since there will always be folks who want it one way or the other.

AJ1's are basically a thinner dunk (historically they actually came first and the dunk was basically an iteration of the AJ1). The thing is that AJ1's still have the original traction pattern that you find on AF1, AJ1, and basketball Dunks. The new SB traction seems better to me. I'm not sure about the durability factor though- whether that makes a difference.

The Adidas Samba ADV, I wasn't a huge fan of these shoes but the sole was barely worn worn at all by the time most soles are done. They seemed harder and less grippy than most though, so I guess that's why.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I am going to try the AJ1s at some point for sure. Was hoping for a vulcanized suggestion, but I bet that is a pipe dream.

Not yet, need to spraypiant them. They're white and I just can't bring myself to wear white shoes. I'll definitely post in the non-skate shoes for skating thread when I do.

I was considering trying a regular non-skate Samba. I skated a pair in high school and I remember liking them (granted that was now over 20 years ago)

all adidas i've skated had very durable outsoles, especially the matchcourt, which surprises me because it's a vulc shoe. states are pretty good too, and the accels have bulletproof soles but they're some big ass shoes so i don't know if they're going to work for you

im sure others will disagree but as someone who blows through soles relatively quick due to aforementioned foot wiggling, ive noticed janoski soles tend to last the longest for me.

Janoski and the blazer sole last long for me. The real blazer, haven’t tried any variants.

I glued a new sole onto the bottom of my shoe. Found some flat outsoles on ebay. I put the glued the sole on the shoe and put it in a vacuum sealer bag and sucked the air out to clamp the sole down evenly across the bottom of the shoe during the gluing process. The next day I cut the excess sole so that the new sole is flush with the old sole. It does add noticeable weight to the shoe (maybe just restoring it back to its original weight before wearing down the rubber?). The soles were $15/pair. I'll probably go back over the edge of the sole with shoe goo so that there is no lip whatsoever to catch on stuff and start causing a the sole to flap and detach, but I haven't yet. I'm actually only doing this to one foot to correct for a short right leg, in lieu of a shoe insert, and it's working well for that purpose. Seems like this method could be useful for just extending the life of shoes with worn out soles.

I have these as well and I have skated them for like 2 months and it seems like there is no wear at all on the soles

Got Kooked for this before but I'll say it again, Areth soles are indestructible.  And somehow only $19.99 on the Zumiez site, haha.

I had seen some shoe repair people on social media resole some skate shoes (that didn't look like they have ever been skated) which turned out well, but for the most part, I guess it is almost neck and neck between whether the bottom of the shoe or the top of the shoe will fail first for a lot of people.

Still, I am curious enough to see what they look like after you have done your thing with them, so it would be cool to see pics if you have any, or even the finished product or what they are like now.

Asics Gel Vickka Pro. I skated them for over two months and the sole isn’t even close to going bald. The rubber is supper grippy and the tread is really deep. The suede upper will rip long before the sole goes bare. Plus for a very thin cupsole they’re actually quite comfy, tho I wouldn’t do a lot of hucking in them.

Nice!

Kind of reminds me of the MTB or similar shoes with that sole, but if it works, then that's all that matters.

Thanks for the pic.

New Balance 600 for a slimmer shoe that has a sole that lasts forever. I don't love everything about the shoe but when I'm living in the mountains, I blow all my shoes in the exact sole region you are talking about and these have lasted longer than any by a mile.

Wearing Etnies Michelin at the moment, and used to have DC Lynx OG a few years ago. Ended up throwing the DC away because I couldn't destroy them. The stiching at the front came undone from doing caspers, so had to glue it back up, but the sole lasted forever.
