Indy pivot cups
« on: July 30, 2019, 08:37:34 AM »
Anyone else rip through indy pivot cups rather quick? Kept happening on my last pair, kept replacing the pivot cups but it was always too late and it was already metal on metal. Pivot cup receptacle (dont know the name of the hole your pivot cup goes into on the baseplate) got super wide so at that point new pivot cups didnt make a difference. Got a brand new pair of trucks and i ripped through both pivot cups within less than 2 weeks. Does anyone have the same issue and have you found a solution? Maybe a different brand of pivot cups or a trick/tip some of you guys have figured out? Someone suggested i put super glue or shoe goo inside the pivot cup and then put my hanger back in place, but not sure if i wanna try that. Its really annoying because i feel like my board only wants to lean to one side. Using my old bushings so they already felt pretty broken in when i set them up.

what width are you riding? been through many stages of 129 indys and it never happened to me until they switched to stage 11s, ever since the switch ive ripped a hole through the pivot cups in every set i had. Bones bushings started blowing up for me aswell since too. my friends that ride wider indys dont seem to run into the same problem.
replacement pivot cups with a bit of oil or wax shavings helped alot but with time it will happen again.

Used to rock bones bushings (hardest duro), then did a combo of one bone/one indy stock, now i just stick to the stock ones so maybe thats my issue. I ride 149s tho. Have had 3-4 pairs of stage 11s and they seem really different than the stage 10s and few others before that. Im mainly annoyed with my board mostly leaning to one side. Skating switch and nollie seem fine but riding my regular stance while trying to three flip has become nothing but a goofy balance game trying to hold more weight on my flick foot just to add more pressure or balance.

I'm pretty sure there's a problem with current stock pivot cups.
For a few months (kinda since the Made In China switch), i had many customers with faulty pivot cups on Indys. By faulty i mean "ripped in a month or 2". whatever the width, hollow or not.
I personally never had trouble with pivot cups with Indys in the past (they usually last almost as long as the truck). But my current setup shows signs and the pivot cups are starting to rip
I really think the pivot cup is faulty because using old pivot cups (not ripped despite months of service) from older trucks is fine.
Currently discussing the topic with my local distributor.
words on the street / spots is that many indy users have noticed the same problem in my area

Hey Indy guy lurking Slap, your pivot cups suck ! Do something

Stock Indy pivot cups do suck. I always shave up some bar soap and stuff the shavings inside the pivot cups. It helps lessen the friction a bit and keeps them from ripping through so quick. Works for me.

Well there's your problem. You are riding indys like it's still '89. Step up to modern times and get some gring kings.

do you ride your trucks with up & down slop in them? people that ride short/modified bushings have pivot cup & kingpin issues.

The issue here is you ride Indy’s in the first place.

i had a guy bring his indys back to the shop and the pivot cup looked like it had snapped in half. trucks were about a week old, literally half the pivot cup was missing like it had shattered. pretty sure they were hollow wes kremer 139s

This happens constantly to me too on my front truck its so annoying. Last two pairs of trucks were Indy's Pre-China and I went through multiple pivot-cups on both pairs. Decided to switch it up on my current pair and try out some Krux which actually aren't bad, but I have the same issue. Loose truck problems I guess.

The pivot cups have been made in china the whole time. indy has been using chinese washers, bushings and baseplates for a few years now and only the hangers were forged in USA at Ermico. Have you ever seen a product that said "assembled in USA" instead of "made in USA", thats what indys have been for years. All the replacement indy bushings say made in China, the bulk box of replacement pivot cups says made in China, the baseplates stopped having USA stamped on the bottom.

Pivot cups are hard plastic and its a shame there aren't any replacements made in different durometers from nice urethane. Ace Trucks also devour pivot cups.

When did the changeover to china hangers happen?

About a year ago: It's official: Indy now 100% made in China
