AntiHero is such a clusterfuck of contradictions if you look at its whole existence. I still love the brand for some reason, probably the eagle shape. But really....
“Fuck the man!” (This company would be nothing without government funded skateparks)
“Fuck those hooker low-lifes and their devious sexual tendencies” (Hey Mr. Roy, would you like to be the face of the company?}
“Fuck Trump!” (Guns in every video)
“Gentrification is bullshit” (DLX: “Hire a rich gay white man to do skate tricks. All of our Hispanics are too lazy”.
“Think for YoUrSelf” (“Repeat quarterpipe tricks for eternity”)
I could go on. I wish AH made shitty decks, then I wouldn’t be in this mess of a contradiction.
1. DIY parks exist. Even though "the man" doesn't want them to.
2. Owning guns doesn't automatically make you conservative or a Trump supporter.
3. Antihero has Hispanic guys and a black guy on the team.
4. If tranny skating is just "repeat quarterpipe tricks" then I guess we can get really reductionist and say street is "flip board and grind ledge".
For the first one, my reaction was ‘yeah, fuck those government-funded parks! Keep it raw and real in those government-funded streets!”
That hot take was lukewarm at best.
Still not that hard to reconcile. You could hate the Man because of imperial wars, the upward redistribution of wealth and all those things, but think it would be really good if we all had universal healthcare, great public transit, and far better public education, etc. no matter where you lived, which would probably have to come from the Man in the end. You could even hate those things about the Man and still take money from the Man to build skateparks without any contradiction because it is an actual good thing without any apparent downsides; the fact that the Man also spends money on bad things doesn't negate that.
But this shit's lame, who cares.
