I’m running a 8.25 Antihero and can’t decide between the 144 or 149 Indy. I know the 144 is specifically made for 8.25 but it just looks small to me. Any suggestions?

I'll try my best here. I'm riding an 8.25 with Thunder 148's (the 8.25 axle) while they do seem a little tucked the Thunder 149 (8.5 axle) sticks out ever so slightly throwing it off. I think 8.25 axle on an 8.25 deck is the right combo.

Oddly enough it rides pretty straight.

It's 2.5mm/side. I'd get 149 if you ever wanna run more than 8.25, 144 if you want to go below it.

I wanted something with similar dims to an FA 8.5 but not so rectangular/one directional and not Ps stix. 31.8 length, 14.25 WB. I dunno the last 8.3 Quasi I had the tail was so extremely steep it was insane. Like popping backwards instead of down almost. I rode those crazy box shapes for quite some time this feels nice. I wanna try a mike Anderson shape or a slick.

I ran 144 standards on an 8.25. While it wasnt my ideal setup, I thought it was the right fit for sure

Currently running 149 on an 8.25 and to tell you the truth its perfect if you want one foot in both pies. Put some conicles on and you can charge some tough terrain on street and still have the stability of 149s and explore your gnarly side or put some classics on and an explore some park tech with flips in/outs etc. Although i prefer 139 for tech but i enjoy the freedom of a going park and harsh street with the same setup to much at the moment.

Hope this help..

FYI on the different wheels making it feel different, i just cant run conicles (love the look but just struggle to much) for some reason so i stick with classics.

i ran 149s on anywhere from an 8.75 down to an 8 (i was broke and skating spares) and obviously while it worked on all of them as it should i'd say 8.25 is definitely the cutoff point before the wheels sticking out weirded me out.

Thanks for the suggestions, Slap Pals. I think I’m going to go with the 144 on the 8.25 with the hopes to run some OG Classics soon.

It depends on if you want the edge of your axle to line up vs. the edge of your wheels. With spitfire tablet shapes or bones v2 shape wheels, the edge of the wheel is still inside the rails of an 8.25 if you rock Indy 149s. I don't do any primo stuff so I could care less if the nuts stick out as long as the wheels line up.

Sour 8.75 (14.25wb)
Indy 159 Standard
Spitfire 99A Radial Full 58mm

Wish I could skate my Aces on this thing, they’re 44s though and a tad too small, pretty bummed on that but wanted to try a Sour for a while now, stoked.

Try it with the frankenstein Ace baseplate Indy hanger setup.

I considered that! What advantages would I get out of this though? Would it still shorten the wheelbase like it would if I were running regular aces?

Get some 55s for it if you can, I’m running some on the quasi 8.75 (page 693) and it’s so much fuckin fun.
Man the long board truck thing killed indy for me. I was willing to set aside the racism, but long boarding, gtfo... - DH

The benefit is you have the parts already so no cost to try.  You get the width of the 159 and they turn like Aces.

I've got 55s with 56mm Radials right now and it is just under 8.75 wide at the wheel edges.

I couldn't get used to the Quasi. I pretty much struggled with every flip trick for a few days because of how steep the tail and nose were. Might have been to do with wheelbase, too, but I don't pay attention to those measurements so I'll blame it on the steepness.

Back on something that works for me:

Politic Steve Durante 8 (old one I've been holding onto)
Ace 44s
Dial Tone Jahmal W. 99s 54mm
Swiss

the kicks on the quasi shape fucked me up too

replaced my quasi 8.5 with a grimple 8.38

same wheelbase, the grimple is way snappier
