Should i keep ventures on or switch to 149 Indy hollows?  :D

I have this graphic in the collection stack, it's so good!
[close]

Yeah looks so nice! I bought the deck from a friend Who cruised on It for Just a day or something, and It had 3 stickers on It. I dont usually like stickers on my deck, so i pulled them off and on the First sticker the graphic under It came off. I'm not the guy Who cares a lot about the integrity of the graphic, but if Is getting messed from something that Is not me skating It (a damn sticker), It sucks a bit but whatever, it's cool anyway :D.
I cant really understand what Is that doll about...but yeah i love how the night photo looks. I took this deck because of the shape; before this i skated the 1991jr and the 1992, so now im skating this P9 shape.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astro_Boy

The doll is Astro boy, atomic powered robot boy made to low key made by a scientist after his son died. He has rockets in his boots and machine guns in his butt. Really old Japanese character.

That’s that’s a night scape with Tokyo tower in the background so I can only assume shin is from that area
[close]

Wow thanks for the Infos, that sounds interesting. So it Is a character from manga stuff
[close]

Shin isn't from Tokyo IIRC but yup Astro Boy was huge. The creator of Astro Boy was basically the equivalent of Gonz to other manga artists. Very sick graphic. How do you like it on Ventures?
I dont know, i like It even if i usually skate shorter wb decks ( thats why i loved 1992 shape). I think this P9 shape Is 14.5 wb, and you know ventures makes wb even longer. Yeah It feels a bit long but not terribly long. Anyway i'm loving It , i think with ventures and 52mm wheels Is not so High as a setup. Its okay in the Plaza/spots im skating in this period ( smooth flat) , Is very stable and comfortable, and not that heavy. So yeah Is pretty nice! I Just had 3 sesh on It and i love It.

Osama Tezuka quite literally invented this shit. If you search Godfather of Manga, his bio comes up. Astro Boy is a character from the 50s and is about as old as manga gets. That Shin graphic is just super.

The train station plays the Astro Boy theme when the doors are closing too

@DeepSpace9mm - how the hell do you do this? Do you apply the grip first, draw the lines and use a box cutter? Or do you pre-cut the sheets and jigsaw it on later?

Thank you!!
I appreciate the kind words.

For this one I drew on the back side of the grip after practicing on some paper a few times. After getting a design on the back that I’m happy with I cut it all out using already shitty scissors.

Then I cut each piece once more, trimming one or more edges of each just where they would make contact with another piece, so that there will be a gap between them when stuck on. Usually trimming only one side has worked out for me also while being careful not to cut the original straight edges that I left intact.

Placing a straight line/ stripe on there to work with, as seen on the tail, helped me to keep all (most) of the pieces aligned while I stick it all on the deck. It also provided a place to start.

For this one I used several leftover bits and scraps of 11in wide Mob that wouldn’t have fully covered a board.

Glad you all enjoy it!
Oddly enough I enjoy doing these kind of grip jobs. It hurts the hands and eats scissors though.

Someone gave me a silly looking sheet Mob with tons of Weed printed on it. Next time I’m going to do a super ugly (rad) grip job with stripes of weed / neons / clear and black.

Edit: I think I missed up the quotes in my reply.  my bad.

Crail hot summer box came in the other day and I just set this up instead of the hockey deck which still has plenty of life. Also have 4 weeks before my wrist is healed so this was fun to set up, but now I just want to ride it... Wish I had the skills to do something as sick as deepspace but this will have to do.

Looks really good. Thought you'd need 151s on there, but the 149s look pretty much perfect.

No magic carpet feeling?

Haven't ridden around on it, but playing with it on carpet feels just fine. The back trucks are the perfect size the front is a little wider and probably could fit 151s but I think they would stick out on the sides in the back, Unfortunately don't have a set to try it out with and give better feedback.

Edit: Broke out the tape measure because I was curious.
Over the rear trucks its 8.75" and over the front its a little over  9" so 151s would be the true size I think. This is measuring over the axle on my Thunders, might be able to go wider on indy's or ace's since those are a bit of a shorter wheelbase but don't take my word for it.  ;D

Bought the same box, got the same deck set up with some 159s. Very hyped on the shape and quality of wood. Might have to cop another box.

Christmas Complete

Quasi 8.0 (first PS board)
Royal 139 ultralights
52mm Spitfire F4 101d classics (first formula fours for me)
Bones swiss
Jessup
Diamond 7/8 P-Rod hardware (I liked the colors)

Decided to try the Royals because of the reviews on here. Man they TURN. I cranked them down probably even more than I realistically should and I still feel like I'm riding a surf board. After spending 10 years on venture lows I'm not sure if I'll be able to get used to them.
[close]

I’d suggest with the royals give them a fair shot. The bushings harden up a bit. Still very surfy but they get more stable at center. I didn’t give them a fair shot after a few seshs (maybe an hour or so combined.) threw them back on last week and still kinda too lose for me started swapping bushings out. Didn’t like how they felt and put the stock ones back in and I found my self not having them as cranked down. I have about 2 threads showing maybe 3 now and they feel nice at center and still carvy. Sorry this is so long but give them a few weeks and see if the bushings firm up for you before swapping them out.

You were right. I was incredibly skeptical about the Royals when I first set them up, and really hyped to skate the F4's. The bushings seemed to settle in, and I even loosened them back up a little bit. Still riding them probably tighter than most would, but they turn great and feel awesome. So far liking them more than my venture lows that I've skated religiously for the last 10ish years. As for the F4s for whatever reason I don't know how I feel about them so far. Skated them at the same park I always skate, and they just feel slower than my STF's. Felt like I was dragging and had to push much harder. Very confusing. And I know it's not the bearings because I put some brand new Bones swiss in them. Maybe I just need to break them in a bit more. Thought I'd love the wheels and hate the trucks but so far it's been the opposite.

new board after the first session

krooked brad cromer 8.5 x 31.8 x 14.25
venture 5.8 standard, flat top washer, element bushings (they got mushy as fuck and feel so fucking good now when skating but they don’t snap back to center)
spitfire f4 og classic 58mm 99a worn down to ~51mm. i would get new wheels but there are literally no f4s over 53mm in poland right now and even those are all classics.
pig bolts, random bearings, no name grip
lrab vm001

last time i posted a set up here i skated these shoes about 3 times and got a lil ollie hole, but they’re actually pretty good. i superglued that ollie hole and they’re about a month old now and i skate almost everyday for an hour or 2, they’re still ok to skate in but the sole is almost bald and i’m probably going to put a hole in it in a few days. the rubber on the sidewalls lasts pretty long, usually after a month i would have no rubber left where i kickflip.
