Darkstar and Destructos.....careful....space time continuum could FUCKING SNAP

Going back to the 2000s, all I need are the the neon green bushings to complete the look. I remember shopping online for my first skateboard and I would build a complete with a Darkstar Chet Thomas and Destructo Raws.
Smh. Explains a lot tho.

Darkstar 8.0 - 31.6" length, 14" WB. Got it on discount and wanted to size down my boards both width and length.
Venture 5.2 Lo Hollow Lights - I've got Venture fever at the moment, would prefer them in a Hi but the pinch on the Lo for Crooked grinds is so good. Got them for $15 barely used.
Bones 52mm V1 103a - Skinner wheels FTW, plus the park I usually skate has decent ground
Bone Super Reds - Got an open box for a discount, loving them over my previous discount bearing. They were so smooth they were throwing off my push!
Grizzly Grip - Got it with the board, not a fan of the stuff. Glue feels weak and the damn bear cutout is annoying; plain black grip always
Whatever bolts

Not to happy with the grip job, but I'll live. Didn't expect it to look like a toy board with the blue trucks but shit they were $15, only raw or polished from now on.

Setup looks nice. I don't know why people clown on Darkstar.  They have a legit crew.  Are those HD logos embossed in the deck?

Embossed, if I were a Harvey Davidson fan maybe I would have found it appealing.

This was the least offensive board of the bunch, the others had even bigger HD logos on them in green and orange. No offense taken, just a lesson for me to avoid price point decks and to get a sticker job going. Didn't that the price point boards would feel this shitty, hopefully the change up to Destructos helps salvage some life out of the board.

They’re really, really good. Essentially feels like I’m skating a Spitfire F4 lock in, though I almost prefer these. Super smooth ride and just a tad bit more narrow. Also durability is up to par with F4’s. Been sliding like a mf and no flat spotting yet

Never wanted to spend money and have 2 set-ups at the same time, but I got a new job and I've been fancying some Ace 44's

Primitive Deck (sanded off DBZ graphic) 8.25", 14" WB
Venture 5.8 Worrests w/ bones top washer, stock green bushings
Spitfire F4 classics 54mm
Reds
Mob
Shorty's phillips

Quasi Deck 8.25" (deck tapers makes it feel smaller), 14.35" WB
Ace 44's stock
OJ keyframes
Reds
Mob
Shake Junt phillips

Alternating between old skool pros, ave pros, and slip on pros

Excited to break in the Ace bushings and put some F4's on that setup eventually

It's been 2 sessions and I'm retiring the board. Going to Destructos made the board way too light despite the slightly shorter WB. Tried on Thunders 147 Hollow Lights with risers and the board finally felt ride-able, not great just ok. I think the full concave and steep kicks did nothing to help the length. Took the trucks off and listed the board for sale, at least I'll get some money back off.

Setup my 8 x 32 x 14 with Venture Lo 5.2 V-Hollow. It's pretty worn, no razor tail but I know that board won't give me a hard time during tomorrows session. I'll use that till I can figure out what to ride over the weekend.

The experience is helping me narrow down a couple of things:
1) 8 to 8.25 is ideal, probably 8.125 thereabouts
2) Medium concave
3) Slightly longer length the fine, anything between 31.8 - 32
4) Shorter WB, 14 to 14.25
5) Adjust the A2A wheelbase to match the board length, 17.5 is just a guideline

Alien Visitor 8.125" Matte finish
1995 Venture 5.0 V light lows (green bushing era)
wheels are some 50mm Cockaroach 99A from around 2000. Brand went under
bearings are unknown w shields removed/cleaned and lubed. I think very old swiss.
Hardware is old shorties 7/8
Jessup Ultra

All oldschool setup of spare parts and I love these old ventures. Deck is so nice in person with the matte finish I almost want to hang it and not skate it.

Yeah I have been eyeing that shape and dimension for a bit but I have a boat load of boards not skated yet. I'll setup a 8.125 or 8.25 board this weekend to see how I like a middle of the road size. 8.38 is stable but too wide, 8 is agile but too narrow. Hopefully this whole exercise gets me closer to my goldilock zone. Ive told myself to stop buying new gear until I go through my board collection and figure out my preferences.

I broke my board last night on a flatground fake tre ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

8x32 Generator pressed board that I spray painted

The more I skate these DC’s the more I think that I made a mistake all those years ago skating vulcs and thin cupsoles

Where did you get that Generator blank and what DC shoes are those?

It’s a sample deck from a friend. The shoes are Legacy 98 Slims. The sole felt huge at first and I wasn’t sure Id get used to it. Now they’re perfect and maybe the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve had in a long tine. I’ve been able to relearn a lot of flip tricks I thought were lost to time and injury

For real I had those shoes and they are for sure some of the best shoes I've skated maybe all time.

DGK 8.25
Destructo D1 mids magnesium
Bones v3 slim 54mm
Bones swiss
bronze hardware
Kayo grip

I've been skating the Lakai proto all winter. They are my first pair of Lakai in 4 or 5 years and they air fucking great. I'm skating the leather ones. With the suede ollie patch accents. The only problem was is that suede split relatively quick and there's a seem under it. I shoe gooed that seam and they have been perfect ever since.

Also liked my Protos a lot until I skated Swift 1.5 and realized what a complete piece of crap Protos were.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

How long did they take to break in? I have a pair and skated them twice and retired them. Maybe I gave up on them too soon.

That looks hard to flip but hella fun for everything else.

Exactly, I rarely flip my board anyways

I bought a pair of protos a while back and they are way too narrow for my foot, and ended up becoming one of the most painful shoes I've worn. Threw them out after 2 sessions
