Crosspost from the egg thread.

Won this deck in a raffle Fos put on a month or 2 ago. Gave me an excuse to get some Ace 77s and set up a Christmas complete.

Took this out for a curb session later in the day and the 10” egg is wild! I usually run the 9.4 and this is so much bigger. Also had to get adjusted to Aces as I’ve only run Indys for the last 3 decades.

This thing is a boat but it’s a blast.

I meant to comment on this in the egg thread, but I'm here now, so... I'm not sure whether to congratulate you or scorn you for setting this up and skating it! Lots of people (self included) were in on those Fos raffles to snag these as collectors/wall hangers. Good on you I guess, it was a $20 deck after all. haha

I just donated to the cause Fos was raising money for and did not expect to win. I don’t really collect boards. The ones I have on the wall are ones I’ve skated and loved (several of them Heroin boards). Only exception is a signed Clyde Singleton board that I bought off him. I’ll definitely put this one on the wall after I skate it.

Didn’t intend to offend anyone!

Bro -- don't apologize. You do you. You donated to a cause, you won a board, you decided to skate the board you won. End of story.

It’s a skateboard and it’s meant to be skated, why not skate it and then hang it?

I’d rather see that deck go to someone who’s going to enjoy riding it rather than hanging it on their wall or selling it for a silly amount of money.

That board is more valuable under your feet. I'm also glad its not on a wall. Skate it to death and then maybe hang it on the shed wall...

It is getting skated and will end up on the wall after that.

And just to be clear, I have no problem at all with people who collect boards or buy boards just to hang on the wall. I totally get it. I just can't resist skating them.

I literally have one in front of me, had another that I gave a friend, and measured them with a tape that goes down to 1/32". A sticker means nothing. They had a round of decks that had a 14.5WB sticker on them, but it was the same 8.5x14.38 shape that Krooked uses a lot. The AH Blue Eagle says 8.5x14.25 and it is very well documented on this site and well known that it measures closer to 8.38 and 14.18. Lots of decks are not precisely what they measure or they differ depending on where they are measured. Sometimes the stickers are more to identify a shape than to accurately describe measurements.

It is definitely 32 long or a hair over, which makes sense. The normal BBS 8.25, which Sci-Fi used to use up until they did the drop with Jerry's first pro model and that red/black X deck was that shape. That 8.25 is like 31.9 or so and this one makes up the .1 with the slightly longer and more tapered kicks. I had one of those to compare to the Sci-Fi and it was mostly a longer tail and the tiny bit longer WB the nose was really similar.

Both shapes are great, but if someone thinks they're going from say a Magenta 8.25 BBS generic and the Sci-Fi will be the same, its a bit different.

i know board brands doing what you described, is something that isn’t new. But I’ve always been curious, do you think the specific width plays any part in whether a board size is incorrect/mislabeled? More so width specifically, because I’ve definitely bought 8.0” wide boards that had a different length than they were supposed to be.

For example ,90% of the boards I ride are 8.0”, so because 8.0” is a width that isn’t below or above 8.0” but an exact number, maybe that’s a width that will always be exactly 8.0”? I’ve never personally measured a straight 8 to see if it was exactly 8.0” wide, nor have I ever bought an 8.0” and by just looking at it, thought it looked wider, or skinnier than the size it is sold as. And I most definitely can look at an 8.0” and an 8.125” and tell the difference. Just curious what you’re thoughts are on that width specifically.

There could also be different reasons as to why you see that with board measurements being off too. And I do notice it’s more prevalent with a 8.25” specifically. It would make sense, seeing as 8.25” is probably the most common size people ride. Idk. I’m definitely measuring the width of the the next 8.0” board I buy though. 🤣 cause now you got me thinking… 🤔
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Curious if you ever see or skate the 8.06 boards that some brands, DLX and others use?

That is 8 and one sixteenth, which comes out at 8.06 which is wider than the 8.0 but more than anything, it is the shape that is usually different to the other 8.0 boards.  So little in it, some 8.0 boards even seeming like they are wider than the 8.06 boards when all stacked side on together, even some of the same boards, some a little wider and some a little less, which I see with many boards of what is said to be the same size when all stacked / held together on their sides and a metal ruler or something is put across them.

Not trying to be picky or anything, just interesting to note.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I don’t know if he actually skates this but wouldn’t be surprised. When I skated 8.5 this was my go to shape.

Bro -- don't apologize. You do you. You donated to a cause, you won a board, you decided to skate the board you won. End of story.

Fully agree. Nothing necessarily against hanging new decks if you want to keep them but there’s something extra sick about hanging a skated board. You get a reminder of great memories.

I’m involved in dumb music and it frequently has wacky packaging. I remember getting into it with a friend who was spending wild money on tapes because of said packaging and then not actually listening to the release. No actual judgement but I would think enjoying what you buy for it’s purpose is in my opinion radder than simply having a product. I’d way rather “ruin” a tape by playing it to hear the music and I’d rather skate the deck to make those memories.

So far I like them a lot. I had concerns about the durability of the toe cap, but they've held up really well and provide enough cushion over the LRAB vulcs without sacrificing any board feel imo. The two tone green is ugly as fuck but I'll definitely get another pair, especially when the new colors drop.

Was fortunate enough to be gifted a new Patty Praman Pro plank in the oh so lovely DLX 8.38 x 14.5 shape.
Same AF1 hollow 55s & F4 99s in the 54mm Conical cut that I ran on the last popsicle.
Bones Swiss, natch.
Shortys or maybe Roughneck (can’t recall which) hardwares.
The big chunk of grip is a bit of Jessup I had lying around & the rest of it is actually  off-cut/scraps of stair tread adhesive traction strips that I had left over from some porch work a while back.
Hodge-podge grip job is prolly gonna suck.
Don’t care; I plan on “getting rad” w/ it, regardless.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

That is a rad setup and a sick grip job. And I am jealous of that social distance sticker. Not necessarily because of Covid but because I don't like it when strangers stand too close to me.
