Flaming hot set-ups all around, pals!

I've got some flatground tricks I want to cross off my bucket list, and goddamn it, this set-up is gonna help me do it.

8.25 Grimple (IV stamp)
Frankentrucked Ventures: new 5.6 V8 hangers on used forged hollow plates
54mm 93 F4 radials, probably down to 52mm or so
Quantum Isotopes
Pepper

Haven't ridden anything under 8.5 in over two years, let's see how it goes. Thanks to the homie @Síota for trading me the deck.
[close]

Wait, isnt this defeating the whole purpose of the V8s and basically just a V-hollows with a solid axle?
[close]

think they'd be V-lights exactly, maybe he used the V-8 baseplates on another board with a long wheelbase.
[close]

That's exactly it. I'm currently using the V8 baseplates with 5.8 V-hollow hangers on my main ride, this is just a flatground setup. In hindsight I shouldn't have brought up that these are V8 hangers cause it doesn't matter at all. They're just self-assembled V-lights and perform exactly as I'd expect normal V-lights to do.

Ah ok that makes sense. I always confuse if V-lights have the kingpin hollow or the axle hollow.
I ride V-hollows myself. I have a set of Kader's V-Casts I bought for really cheap a while ago, but now I wanna try the V8s  :'(

Haha, that's exactly where I was too. Right down to skating Kader V-Casts that I got on sale. I find that the V8s are great for flip tricks, but everything else from just riding fast and straight ollies to grinds and transition skating is a little harder on them because I've gotten so used to the stability regular Ventures provide. Come to think about it, I really should use the proper V8s on this flatground setup and keep my main ride the way I like it best.

Regardless, I was concerned about whether or not the wheelbase (which I'm not used to, usually stick between 14-14.25) would cause flip trick issues.

Thankfully the wheelbase didn't really cause any problems once I went through the kickflip test, though.
[close]

Wheelbase length doesn't affect straight flip tricks that much, it'll ruin your 360 flips though.

Hm, wasn't aware of that. Can't ruin what isn't there anyway, lost my fakie tre years ago. It sucked, no big loss.

I’m behind both of you with unskated Kaders and V8’s.  Couldn’t wait, so I put my old hollow axels on the v8 baseplate on my last set up, but since set up a new board and used the old holes again.  Still haven’t figured out exactly which is my favourite way to set them up.

I had the same experience with the v8 and the pop was just too anemic for me. I love the snap of the V-Casts. Just put on some Manderson 5.8s and generally enjoying them aside from manual tricks, which V8's were a cheat code for.

Got a sesh in on the Horse Pill today and wow it is actually even better than I was expecting!

Was prepared for some sort of gimmickry but it is actually a very functional shape. Feels normal except it brings the coping closer and feels more comfortable. Ok I have mainly been riding a 9" lately so my "normal" is just an inch less wide, but still.

Even flips just fine, wonder if that's the short wheelbase or the half inch of magic carpet with the AF1 77's.

Oh and the wood feels *amazing* at least now that it's fresh. Someone was asking if BBS has fallen off in quality, I would say no.

Palace 8.25 w/14.25 wb black magic grip.
Venture low 5.2. W/v8 baseplates.
Spitfire 57mm lock in full. Bone swiss 6.
Using the same shortys hardware for a little over year.
Rotating dunks and japan pros.

I really like the nose on this board. It is a little fuller than most palace decks. They tend to be pointier. For the 5.2s i put two washers on the inside so it is not too magic carpet. I had to buy new nuts for the axles because the others would get loose. Found some titanium on ebay. The look kinda cool. The wheels are fucking sick, probably my favorite wheel. Will be purchasing some 57 bigheads for the next set up. I love this set up. I'm not skating it with super tight trucks, More in the medium range.

Added some random stickers. Been watching a lot of Ron Chatman, Ricki Ibaseta, rubbis heap and stuff like that 90-92 and all the skaters had sick sticker jobs.

Hella wheelbite, but i think it's  manageable. Im kinda fat and still don't mind it.
I mostly skate ledges, flatground and my parking block.
It feels like a homecoming to me. I used to skate boards like this all the time. But i weight 170 lb back then, now i weigh 235 lol. But fuck it. Just looking at the set up hypes me up.

For reference, i still wheelbite more on 147 thunders with 53s.

They mislabeled them. The camo is 14.25 and the Jamal is 14. I bought both. The Jamal states 14.25 but it is a 14. Wb. I measured them with two different tapes and asked my son to measure it. Thought i was tripping.

Dude I copped the Jamal from the same season of Palace's website too and noticed the same thing! His shape is always the 8.25 w/ 14' WB but noticed Palace listed it as 14.25 WB, I measured it as soon as I got it and sure enough it was the standard 14'  ;D. Funny they messed those two up
