That's a perfect curb right there. People around the world dream of such a thing.

I manage several curbs independently and even after a couple years I haven’t gotten them to this level of broken in. When the edge looks like coping you know the local scene is healthy.

I’m blessed to be living 10 mins from one of the best curbs spots ever — The Bellflower DMV.

(not me, but someone who rips this place)

Absolutely love Bellflower DMV: Franco Javier & Bert Hurley Gerbils introduced me to the place & I've been jonesing for a return trip ever since.

Bellflower in SoCal?
[close]

Yep, the city of Bellflower just north of Long Beach.

What’s the best time to go? (feel free to DM me)
I’ve been going to the Costco Curbs but I think those are closer to me.

Weekends, holidays, and after 6pm on weekdays.

Basically, when the DMV isn’t open.

What’s the width on that polar? Is it it that 8.625 shape? Asking because I may order some 150 lurpivs and they look small on that deck. Or maybe it’s just those tiny wheels.

Took a look at your post history out of curiosity to see who was behind this setup. Seems like you’ve been out of the game for a long time and are still acclimating back into skate culture so don’t beat yourself up, but you’ve exemplified many of the faux pas and cliches that someone very out of touch with the culture would make e.g. mismatched brand stickers, opposing truck companies being represented, stickers placed haphazardly, distracting grip job, etc.

I understand you’re just hyped on your skateboard and that’s fuckin awesome, but you’ve wandered into one of the most discerning and critical places on the internet to share pictures of skateboards so you may be met with more backlash than you’re ready for.

Basically this board looks like someone set it up to be used on a movie set where a teenager was meant to portray what non skateboarders think skateboarders look like.

After much and careful consideration, you might be on to something, I am pretty sure my timing for my ollie will come back much faster if I have better and consistent sticker placement.

Let me assist further. Give the destructos to the grandkids and get something decent, which these days is pretty much anything but destructos.

The question on my mind is are you going to regrip your board after the pepper grip tape arrives? Is mob treating you that poorly?

I know lots of people think you need Ace/Indy/Slappy/etc.  to be a proper skater, but these work for me.
And yeah, not liking the Mob at all, can't really say way, just that it feels off to me.

I actually rode Destructos in the early 00s, back when they were made in the USA and backed by Giant. They were kind of a lower Indy alternative with great kingpin clearance. I ran orange Indy bushings instead of those toxic sludge green ones everyone loved. If I remember right, Chris Senn, Ricky Oyola, Donny Barley and a bunch of others were on them, and they even made an 8.25 truck which was rare as hell back then.

They also had that beefier offshoot, Destroyer. Higher, more Indy-ish, red bushings. Pretty sure Mike V was the captain on that. Those trucks felt too serious, just like Mike V.

What’s out now looks like a brand rights grab. Private equity vibes. Cheap product aimed at people who don’t know the history and won’t notice they’re getting fleeced. No team is a huge red flag, and the blank deck isn’t helping your case. If a brand isn’t giving back to skating, it’s just selling nostalgia.

I fell out of skating in the mid 00s, dipped back in here and there, then fully recommitted in 2022. Took a minute to recalibrate, but I’d honestly recommend getting back up to speed on core skateboarding if you don’t want the Slap wolves tearing you apart and leaving you for the vultures.

I skate Ace AF1s now. Same height as my old Destructos, better turn, better grind, skater owned, solid team. Easy choice.

There were way to many quotes....

I totally get that Destructos are not for everyone, and I get that they are not made in the USA, but not a lot is anymore.
All the info I found says they are stilled backed by Giant, but I also acknowledge that it may old.  I will ask Chris when he emails me back about the crap ass bushings they use.

As for the "wolves" I am not scared or worried that the internet might grow teeth and try to bite me.  Skateboarding is deeply personal and subjective undertaking, to be called out because you don't follow the "norm" is at a serious cross-point to what I believe is the heart of skating.

I ride blanks because I don't feel the need to drop $75 a board while I am relearning the shape/kicks/concave that feels right to me. I am on my 2nd shape, the first one I skated for 2 days and knew it was not right, this HLC is much closer, but I think I need a shorter wheel base.

This brings me back to the Destructos, the D2s have a lower stance, and currently, as I am relearning my Ollie timing and pop, I am having a hard time consistantly popping the tail before I execute the rest of the Ollie, I don't think higher trucks will help at all, and while I have looked at the AF1s, again, from a value proposition, and my skill set, I feel it would not be money well spent.

I value all the input I have received, even if it was back handed and sarcastic.
at 52, and after 20 years in the Army, my skin is pretty thick.

yeah, there is a lot of hate for trucks that do not fall into the "Big 3" camp, but we each have to ride what feels right, trucks, wheels, grip, decks, and bearings...all of it

Sometimes there is a lot of judgment from a culture that is supposed to kinda against it

Or maybe I am old!

So you skated during the 90’s and you’re coming in this hot about skaters being judgmental here? You seem kinda defensive for voluntarily posting your obviously beginner level setup in a place for the nerdiest nerds to pick apart and critique. Did you scroll back and read what people talk about in here or did you just expect an r/skateboarding pat on the back? Either way ride whatever makes you happy and who fuckin cares.

I’ve had multiple sets on destructo up until around 2019 I switched to the the new tensors. Destructo are great trucks. Idk what to tell anyone who’s never rode them, I’m not a truck nerd.

yeah, there is a lot of hate for trucks that do not fall into the "Big 3" camp, but we each have to ride what feels right, trucks, wheels, grip, decks, and bearings...all of it

Who came in hot? I got blasted for stupid stuff like stickers. You know because they are the reason for my current crappy skating. But yeah, I came in hot.

All I have ever said is summed up by your last line, but your right I was the one out of line.

Also, what makes it an "obviously beginner level setup" the fact that the HLC deck does not have a Plan B/ graphic? The fact that you might have an issue with the trucks because they do not fit your definition of "pro" level? The wheels? the grip tape?

I ride blanks because I don't feel the need to drop $75 a board while I am relearning the shape/kicks/concave that feels right to me. I am on my 2nd shape, the first one I skated for 2 days and knew it was not right, this HLC is much closer, but I think I need a shorter wheel base.

Since you ride blanks, may I suggest:

BBS 8.5 S (8.5" x 32", 14.25" wheelbase)

And some Indy 149 standards

I looked at that a few times, it is actually a bit longer WB than the HLC.
But thank you

I am thinking about running up to Denver and grabbing a Real True Fit deck 8.5″ x 31.35″ with 13.75″ wheelbase

Can definitely tell you were in the department of defense for 20 years. Carry on, soldier.
