Giant hasn’t existed for at least 15 years, so yeah, Destructos now are absolutely a brand-rights zombie. That part isn’t really debatable. It’s not about USA vs overseas manufacturing, it’s about who’s actually behind it and whether they’re contributing anything back to skating.

The bigger point I was trying to make wasn’t “don’t ride this or you’re wrong.” It’s that Slap has always filtered stuff through one lens: is this helping skateboarding? Is it supporting skaters, shops, and companies that are actually part of the ecosystem?

You’re totally right that skating is personal and subjective. Always has been. But skate culture also isn’t value-neutral. The culture a lot of us came up in leans left, leans art, leans small. It borrowed a lot from punk. DIY, skater-owned, keep it human, keep it local. Call it social libertarian if you want. Someone definitely read Schumacher at some point.

I get riding blanks while you’re dialing in shape and wheelbase. That makes sense. No argument there. But the “value proposition” conversation hits different when skate shops are closing, brands are hanging on by a thread, and plenty of pros are driving DoorDash to keep going. At some point the value isn’t about performance per dollar, it’s about whether you’re investing in skating at all.

If you don’t want shade on Slap, the easiest move isn’t defending gear choices, it’s showing you care about the bigger picture. Support your local shop. Try stuff from companies that are actually skater-owned. I live in Chicago and I’ve bought things from Uprise purely because I want them to exist.

And honestly, with 20 years in the Army, you probably have more stability and safety net than most skaters ever will. If you put even a little of that back into skating, nobody here is going to question your credibility.

Ride what you want, just know the room you’re in!

Thank you for this!

and for the record, I do support my local. while I have not bought a deck/trucks from them I do get all my other parts and pieces from them, I am part of their "Skate Club" that has a monthly membership fee as well. Not going to say it is run by, but the faces of the shop are some really great kids!

Again, this reply has been one of the most well presented of the current conversation, thank you

Politic Danny Renaud 8.25 square shape
Venture cast 5.8
Spitfire 99 duro f4 Radial 52 mm

Wanted to try south central wood again. It’s stiff and a bit heavier, just like I remembered it. Also looping out on trucks again. Venture feel great, but not sure how long it will be before I make another impulsive swap.

That's a perfect curb right there. People around the world dream of such a thing.

I manage several curbs independently and even after a couple years I haven’t gotten them to this level of broken in. When the edge looks like coping you know the local scene is healthy.

Love Politic and their boards. Great setup.

I really wanted to get back on South Central, too. 5boro as a company is a little funny these days, but they work so well. Had to put one on to start the new year.

Damn, thinking about putting my V8s in short (both trucks in) but i am afraid of the way it looks and feels.
Basically my board works great overall but i am tempted to try it…….mind i am 5‘7 with short legs on an 8.25/ 14.25 wheelbase  :o

How do slides feel different from having them setup regular?
And does it look weird from the side with long ass nose and tail?

I mean the whole point of v8's is to try wb adjustments with little consequence. Why not just set it up for a session and see for yourself?

Ok

Looks and feels fine. I’ve only ever done the short option on both trucks. I just think of it as if I’m skating Indys or Royals. Both of those trucks I skated a lot (stage 9s & 10s and the new Royals) which are probably pretty similar to Ventures pushed in. I used to skate Ventures as normal, too.

Front tails for me feel a little easier since I like a longer tail for that trick. Everything else is what I’m used to.

I’ve just learnt not to skate super short boards like those WKNDs on them. I’m 5’11 so you’ve got no worries there.

Politic is so slept on. Their graphics are always great.

The Gazelles (non skate) are fantastic. I’ve only been interested in two shoes the last 5 or so years, the Adidas Aloha and the Louie 2s. The Indoor Gazelle uses the same sole as the Aloha, so it’s basically the same just way cheaper and easier to find. The grip looks wacky, but is actually durable. The shoes are stable and are wide enough. Perfect shoe imo.

@camel filters totally the point of them i get that. I bought them but couldn‘t bring myself to switch em up so far since i feel waaay better on my board now and i don‘t wanna lose that
TLDR: me being a major headcase about it right now

Thanks for all the feedback pals 😘

Stunning setup nonetheless

Hockey Diego Todd 8.5"x 31.9" 14.25" WB Shape 1
Indy 149 standard with bones hard bushings (game changer)
Spitfire classics 54 99d
bones big balls
regular pepper

Been riding 14.5 wb for a minute because I'm 6'5" and felt like i needed the extra room, but after going down to a 14.25 I unlocked so many more tricks and the board feels so much more responsive and agile. Flip tricks, ledge tricks, even weirdly transition tricks all feel easier and more intuitive, so for now I'm really happy with sizing down.
The bones hard bushings also have helped a lot, since I'm tall which makes me heavier, they allow for really nice stability while also being carvy and responsive.

I have pretty much cured my gear madness (knock on wood)

really stoked on the art too, wax and grime gets between the embossed art and makes it look like patina'd silver

My first post on Slap after lurking the forum for ages. I used to be on SkatePeception forum quite a bit back in the day and really miss the old forum days (RIP).
Got back into skating after a 10 year break about 1 year ago and absolutely loving it!

Figured I'd start off with posting my two set ups.

Main setup:

Anti Hero 8.4 (32x14.25) Doobie Pro model
Indy Forged Hollow 149 (Hard top bushing)
Spitfire 54mm Radial 93a
Bronson Raw

Slappy/Transition setup:

Krooked 9.3 shaped deck
Indy 166 Stage 4 with Stage 11 inverted kingpin baseplates.
Powell Nanocubic 52mm 97a
Bones Super Reds.

These two are a result of quite some gear madness lately. I am eyeing an AH Huffer now though..
