I liked WB better than the 9 Club. I don't mind Chris etc, but if you can't ask questions where the answer will be entertaining, don't run episodes upwards of two fucking hours.

Now, we used to say we put on our tights to put on the world. So I don't think it tarnishes the image at all.

At least with the Weekend Buzz you'd get a response from the skater like "how do you know that?" which was always great.

Jeremy Klein lighting the table on fire was something else.

Brink, what is the point in wearing a label like autistic? Im sure most of us could be told we were ADHD, autistic, narcissistic bi-polar or downright depressed if we wanted a label to explain our personality. Why not just embrace who you are and stop looking for the nearest classification? Only answer I would accept is that its all a scam to get some mad prescription drugs.

I don’t “wear a label like autism.”  I don’t need to “explain my personality.” Nor is autism a personality.

Is this a for real question? Or just a troll?

Not everything is some hidden conspiracy. I’m autistic like I’m tall, like I have light skin. It’s not like me deciding I want people to think I’m a “craft beer guy” now so I’m speaking about it.

They aren’t hats ... Or labels ... they are my DNA. I embrace it all. I’m pretty sure you have called yourself a “skateboarder” or something else at some point ... so you already have the answer to your question ... Why do you “label” yourself?

But ... I’ll bite. And I think what you maybe meant to ask is why did I decide to speak out about my autism and depression diagnoses? If so, it’s because not enough people do. And there are so many people out there who need to know they aren’t alone. People who are comforted by knowing other people out there are going through similar shit.

I can’t even count the DMs with people sharing their stories and “Thank You’s” and “This inspired me to try therapy’s.” I’ve gotten from people since the posts. More than I ever imagined.

So yes, it’s easy to sit here and shift the perspective to make it look like something self serving ... or that I need a label or classification ... but that’s sophomoric “critical” logic at best. Criticism 101. You can do better. I think? And it probably says a lot about you, rather than me, as to why that’s where your mind went first.

Would you minimized the situation like this or have asked Ben Raemers (or any other pro for that matter) that question if he did a post about his depression? And wouldn’t you feel pretty dumb now if you did?

There’s also a whole 7 page thread bashing me for my diagnoses in case you wanna wander over there and join in the fun. I was kinda enjoying the Buzz reminiscing here ...

The fact ur replying with essays, and the speed with which you reply, says to me your still a little narcissistic, Im not a hater btw. Liked your buzz shit. But if I had let every shrink 'diagnose' me with whatever fucked up category they could find id probably have failed at life. Dont bring Ben Raemers into this convo, if you were suicidal you wouldnt be here carrying torches. You have no idea (nor do I) what his demons were but to classify it as some clinical mis-diagnosis is naive (I might add there is no firm way to diagnose, same with autism or bi-polar for that matter). Im just a little uncomfortable with a grown man clinging to some spectrum bullshit and promoting it like its some explain-all for a bunch of personality quirks. Everyone, and I mean everyone has some form of depression, some form of autism, some form of anxiety. The real challenge is to deal with it and move on, not grab onto some label and preach saviour. Then again, its your right, like the religious nutters who attribute everything that happens to a greater purpose to think that way. My personal opinion is that everyone is weird, and if you look hard enough you can find some classification that will pigeon hole you, why bother? Doesn't change shit at the end of the day, if anything it gives you a reason to stop trying to improve because 'i was diagnosed'.

Ah there it is.

Calm down dude, you are being a bit of a dick!

Also, hey Brink :) I always liked your interviews - anything skatewise planned in the future?

Also question: what do you consider to be the most fair criticism you have received for the buzz? And was it something that made you adjust?

And that Murphy line, with your reply would have been an amazing trailer - full support from here :)

I like the Pat Burke episode a lot, but mainly because you never see much Pat anywhere really.

I feel like he's not actually as mad as he was in that Buzz episode.

If Buzz came back a Burke episode would be much appreciated.

Haha thanks.

There was constant feedback from the producers, camera guys, Ride Channel, the public, etc.

As long as something is valid I am all for it. Hard to remember specifics. Literally everything from me needing to speak louder, to cutting guests off politely when they are droning on a bit too long, to how much I fidgeted with my hands and feet under the table (you can see it on camera).

I dunno, most of what came from the public was to have longer episodes or certain guests or not to break them up into parts ... all valid and stuff I (Erica and Lee also) was battling for already.

I probably coulda asked even better questions. Or gone deeper ... I probably coulda spoke clearer and more concisely while asking ... in hindsight there are a million things to improve. Sometimes I lacked confidence/comfort with certain guests and that affects the interview.

If you noticed towards the last year or 2 we had way less alcohol on the table ... I wish we did that sooner. The point of the show was never to get people wasted or anything of the sort. It was to have a couple drinks and talk like you would with your friends at the bar or cafe. And I think people (viewers and some guests) mistook it for the notion that people were supposed to drink and get hammered. I can’t tell you how many times I read comments asking why no one was drinking sometimes because they thought that was the point of the show.

There’s too much to list. Constant feedback.

Yes ... skate stuff planned and in the works!

Stay tuned to my hella narcissistic Instagram to stay in the loop whenever my work drops.

Again, loved the Buzz, hate mental illness diagnosis
side of life, happy to leave each to their own and believe whatever religion / diagnosis they like.  But Brink, u got the right shit when it comes to skate commentary. Don't play down the booze factor though, its what gave you guys the edge. Sure dustin and neen got legless but they are some of the most memorable episodes. The real appeal with the buzz was the Anarchy, make sure any future projects keep that vibe, because without it you will be a nine club wannabe and as much as I like those guys, I dont need another serious skate podcast in my life. Look to The Bunt for inspiration, they get skaters to talk shit on each other and thats their angle. Edge baby!

Was he mad? All I remember is ‘Ol Pappy, his alter ego.

I’ve talked to Pat since then and he’s rad. Never got an angry vibe.

I meant mad as in like bizarre or strange, not angry, (I'm from England, sorry).

Ryan Reyes ... omg. He blacked out too. I don’t think its possible for me to be a Nine Club wannabe considering they did a similar format after us. I heard Austyn’s Bunt ... no hate but maybe I missed the “edge” ...

Dollin and Beagle tossing their drinks on the artwork / walls was pretty classic. I was like “okay this is new ...”

I dunno that I’m doing a podcast. That pool is way too crowded right now. I started those live panel events last year (the one I did with Skate Moss, Briana King, etc.) but to be honest it just isn’t my format and I hated the pressure of having to fill a room with real people in Orange County. That was nerve wracking as hell.

But, at the risk of “crying wolf” I am at the beginning of what will hopefully be a recurring thing ... if I can execute it properly. Thanks!

Look forward to it, the skate moss shit was wack, surely you could see that. Dont snooze on The Bunt tho, even with their sports jock shit they dont get much / any hate. They are doing something right.

Brink, what was it like spending time with Jeff Grosso? That was my all time favorite episode next to the one with Auby Taylor. Isn't Auby autistic too?

I just like when brink posts that Dylan doing the impossible over the street league clip on Instagram. The single best thing to happen at one of those.
I really liked the grosso Lucero ep. the show really improved from season to season and I liked that aspect and was nice to see who was acting like a kook.

Brink thank you for being so open and honest about your developmental disorder, as someone who suffers from mental illness, I appreciate when people come forward and open up about their own daily struggles. It makes me feel less alone in the world.

I was a huge fan of Weekend Buzz and continue to watch old episodes all the time. If the show ever got picked up again it would be so cool to see you interview more people that didn't make into the first series.

Who needs to be on the Show
1. Kader
2. Suciu
3. Nora
4. Puelo
5. Crockett
6. Ben Gore
7. Kirchart
8. Justin Henry
9. Alexis Sablone
10. Henry Sanchez

That's just the first 10 people that came to mind

Brink, the Ishod and Trevor episode is classic, my friends and I still always quote Ishod’s, “You gay?!” from that day. Hope you bring it back, if so, invite Megan Baltimore on. I’d love to see her interviewed, either there or the Nine Club. I’m so curious about her story as Crail Darkwoman for some reason.

Just like 411VM, any reboot now would be a poor version of the original, everyone's moved on.

Not agreed.

411 was basically a magazine in videoformat. And both of those things died out because of 'modernization' of our entire society.

The weekend buzz was a 'podcast' a form of communication/media which is still very current and modern...

No prob! Just thought of another fav moment of mine ... Ishod snarfing his beer after I was impersonating Colden’s gay supermarket stalker ... also in the very beginning Trevor laughing uncontrollably while Ishod was all pissed off before he warmed up. He came in super heated after having issues getting a new passport and almost didnt do the show. But he cheered up pretty quickly.

The Jake Duncombe episode was pretty spectacular, I've met him before on the Gold Coast and I just sort've nodded at him, but he seems like a really nice guy.

Personally I think Weekend Buzz started it's decline when Erica left and Dupoint took her slot the dynamic with guests was changed as was the vibe in a good cop (skate betty) Erica and bad cop (skate nerd) Brink kind of way in my own opinion. Ride Channel is a memory as is 411VM best left in the past for nostalgia purposes. Can you really imagine a reboot with two new hosts?

i thought it improved ten fold when lee became co-host. could actually go in depth with the guests and hold his own with out reverting to facebook questions

nah erica brought a light-hearted approach to it, she had a personality

roger and kelly sound kinda regular when they speak & I don't think chris likes to pay attention to what his guests say

I'd take erica and brink over their thing any day
