Some real awkward moments in that Ryan Smith episode, but enjoyed it none the less. Appreciate his candidness. He calls out Jamie Thomas really hard.

Ryan's not pulling any punches on JT. But he's also not wrong. Forcefully molding a young person's identity and actions for your personal benefit, while ensuring they're always intoxicated, then cutting them off once they're no longer of value. That sounds like exploitation and predatory behavior to me too.

Been saying this - particularly the part in bold - since the Trevor Colden affair.

Damn, dude had a lot to say. I agree with his general point about partying being glorified and skate companies being kinda exploitive, but I think some of his points were a lil weird or exaggerated. Specifically his point of how you "couldn't get on Zero unless you were wasted" or whatever made me raise a brow considering how many other stories there are about Zero being too strict about people partying. I know there's plenty of Chief dirt to make him seem a bit manipulative, but that specifically felt like an awkward deflection.

also his bit about his shoe being the "only DC shoe" to be sold to shops is just straight up not true, even if he was exaggerating.

That was a good interview. This is why I like when "where are they now" skaters on The Bunt and even Nine Club. You get a lot of questions being answered.

Yeah, tweeker vibes giving me shivers.
Seemed genuinely nice at times too, obviously slightly/majorly burnt from substances; and very embittered due to circumstances in his industry experience. I mostly feel bad for where he ended up, but it seems like he isn’t really taking too much responsibility for his own part in it other than the whole socially awkward, drank too much excuse (which I personally subscribe to, but own it).
Interesting episode for sure tho...

He's definitely bitter at Jamie and the Industry for chewing him up and spitting him out. I don't think his story is that uncommon realistically.

Some funny shit in there and he definitely doesn't hold back, but damn he comes across as super bitter. I feel like the had a similar episode/vibes a few seasons ago with Darell? I'm sure he got played a bit and the Jaime stories aren't new but it also sounds like he's gotta own some more of his own shit. Such a ripper though, decades before his time with that RDS part.

Biggest take away though is I want to hear a Lindsey Robertson episode.

He had a pretty serious TBI, which can contribute to the way he’s conducting himself.  Just saying.

That’s what I’m saying. I’d heard he had some behavioral changes post-trauma which is entirely likely especially if it affected his frontal lobe.

He was just giving me flashbacks of the tweeters in my family that I no longer associate with that have a similar conversational style.
Trippy that brain damage through drugs or a motorcycle accident could cause almost the same sort of behavior, but shit, stranger things have happened; we have Trump for a president (hopefully not for much longer!!)

Jahmir episode was really good. Might be bias cause he dope dude IRL. Really interested in knowing what happened between him and Stevie. Shots low-key were fired and he was selling all his old Stevie wall boards and shit on IG stories the other day.
[close]

Yeah same. I wouldn't even say it was shots fired, it just sounded like he really looked up to Stevie and got really disillusioned when skating for DGK. He said something along the lines of, "He wasn't who I thought he was..." and I thought it sounded pretty sad.
[close]

For sure definitely a better way to put it. Sounds like an example of never meet your idols or something? I just can't even fathom what could've possibly happened.
[close]

Mehh, Jahmir bounced for the next best thing just like how he quit working at Noc and continued to talk shit on them until he realized that he wouldn't be much without the support of those dudes. He's spewing all this stuff about Palace and DC but best believe that if Nike or Adidas calls he'll throw DC under the bus as soon as possible. He was all about DGK then Palace came along he was throwing DGK under the bus the next day. Same kid that couldn't be bothered to wake up for work and same dude who actually said "food should be free for me" and "I'll take Philly SOTY". I don't really agree with the a lot of the stuff saying how humble the dude is, homie got lucky by getting free stuff b/c of older dudes taking him under his wing. I don't really get the hype about how he's blowing up, dude's a chaser and doesn't really do his own thing. There's plenty of other skaters in Philly who are better and gnarlier but he's been on DGK/ DC's dick for so long without that image he wouldn't really be shit. I got love for the dude but he's basically full of shit from what I heard in his interview. Same dude who seems like he doesn't give a fuck is mad chill, saying people have beef on him is the same dude who is happy to talk shit with his people if you don't look like them. Knowing the guy personally I, it's cool to see him blowing up but he's mad full of hot air like the rest of these kids inflated ego's that haven't actually accomplished anything yet. The fact that the chose him and Kyle Wilson just shows that they're running short on guests to come on a podcast and talk shit. The younger people try to come off so hard as something they obviously are not esp the Palace kids.

You and you’re boys can keep writing books and talking shit on the Internet. I see u up in his comments and riding his dick irl.

That Ryan Smith interview was indeed pretty brutal. They could barely ask him any questions. He'd just go off with rant after rant, sometimes totally unrelated to the question. Now that you mention the motorcycle accident, it makes more sense. He did have some interesting things to say but it was difficult to filter through.

Jah bulbasaur's slang is mad annoying and he isn't as talented/ stylish compare to like 90% of flow skaters out there. Joey Obrien is philly SOTY every damn year. Jake Johnson's switch flip back nosegrind was much better than the ss bs nose blunt. Kinda Surprised that wasn't ABD in the 2000s. Pyramid ledge is also not tall or long either...

Ryan smith is definitely full of emotions toward blackbox... he should let it go. Jamie Thomas is and always has been a kook, but tough to believe the kids on Zero didn't know that.

Ryan Smith was an amazing skateboarder that got hurt, fucked his life/brain up with drugs, alcohol and likely painkillers. He had big time addict vibes the entire time. He had some good stories but his inability to communicate a coherent or consistent thought made it difficult to take him seriously.
He's back skating now and is still ripping, soo that is good.

When he started talking about skaters on Zero all having blown out knees and getting dusted...it made me respect Chris Cole even more for sticking with that camp for so long (well he's back again) and winning two SOTY's.

I still feel bad that Marissa Dal Santo got dusted from being on Zero...hell I'd never want to skate for Zero myself. If I was a good skater back in the day I would want to go with something respectable but way more chill...like Expedition or something

Now that I'm in my mid-30's, Zero vids make me nervous. It's a small miracle Gabbers or Burman haven't had a career ending injury by this stage of the game. *Might be worth it for that 360 flip roof gap.

Lots of shots fired at JT which was very entertaining, but I feel like his behavior has been general knowledge for a while now. Loved the comment about him never letting Mystery be bigger than Zero, which it totally could have. I was so into Mystery as a kid and the team was great

Ryan Smith was one of my favourite skaters as a kid. I had his DC's, I watched the trick tips everyday and watched RDS parts non stop. Then I got the Thrasher or Transworld where he talks about his stuff and he mentioned his Macbook or iMac was a "top notch porn go-getter back in it's day". My tiny Christian kid brain couldn't handle the truth hahaha

Seems burnt out and jaded, for obvious reasons that may not be his fault. He seems to be struggling with taking responsibility for his own parts too. Hopefully he is in recovery and maybe there is hope for more positivity and happiness in his life down the road. I am rooting for him, as we all should.
