That was definitely a little hard until the Fallen ad question. The brother in the skate biz thing is surprising to me.

On a odd side note, he works at a record shop in downtown Walnut Creek and sells his boards there. Cool shop too.

Damn, you guys are good. I had nothing until the last clue. Just went back and watched the guest trick they were trying to remember, and it was gnarly. Would fuck up your pop so bad.

I got that one after the Atlantic Drift clue- from the SF episode. This one was tough because his career is pretty random / all over the place

Think Shane O'Neill did. Feel like others have too.

Coulda just said “Had a rather infamous Big Brother interview early in his career,” considering we still might suffer through a Daryl dumbass Angel episode one day. Remember: “No one is off the table.”

It was fun to watch them sweat for so long. Hope Spanish Mike gets a redemption next season; the reverse Mason, if you will.

I enjoyed the episode, but that part when he was talking about how salty he was about not having a signature shoe was hard to listen to. Mate, you had a what, 20 year run with a signature shoe? And you wanna pout about just getting colour ways, even questioning staying with nike?! What a diva!
[close]

10 pro models and none of them iconic. Janoski's 1 shoe is on the wall of Nike best sellers alongside Jordans. It was so popular it forced Nike to change their royalty payout structure (don't know where I read this but something about Shane O'Neil getting a similar shape just renamed to avoid paying Janoski more?)

Paul might love Nike more than his own daughter, at least at one point. I am pretty sure all of his shoes are contractually obligated to him, because fifteen or so years ago he talked about getting on in an interview, “But what about a signature shoe? ” And his agent said, “Hardly anybody gets a signature shoe on Nike.” “I know. That’s why I want it.” .. Something to that effect. Makes no sense why it happened so frequently when, as you said, not a single one made it to the wall or is considered iconic in any way.

As for Shane, Nike wanted to give him his own shoe but the Janoski is genuinely his favorite. Or was at the time. He didn’t want anything else, so they added a stripe or whatever to make the “Janoski by Shane,” lol. Wildly talented on a board, yet boring as.

Theotis said P-Rod is his favorite skater in that old Altamont video where O’Dell tries to get him to say negative stuff about people.

He had both a color way of the janoski and also his own shoe that was a copy of the janoski. Dude I think could have made a good selling shoe if he had an ounce of creativity I think. He's not "cool" but I see a big genre of skaters that go for his whole look.

Odell is so boring

yea usually the ones who are documenting skating like the filmers/photographers are the best interviews bc they have the most behind the scenes stuff but odell was unusually boring

like the worst thing you can hear during an interview is "i don't know" and he'd say that every other sentence it felt like

i'm sure he's a fascinating guy and has lots to tell but that just didn't come through here

I’m sure a Dyrdek Bunt would be up there with the best ones. Even if he’s not relevant in todays skateboarding, the man is entertaining to listen to and has stories for days.

I thought Dyrdek in Memory Screen was the most buck-wild favorite part answer ever, but I hadn't actually even seen it before now. Honestly pretty sick, especially considering it's like 35 years old.

I liked the O'Dell episode. He's mellow but he's got a lot of good stories. He looks like Ed Templeton and Morrissey had an adult baby

Fuckin masochists in here asking for a Dyrdek episode… they just had P Rod on and there’s already a Rob Nine Club.  There’s really no need for another 3hr ramble from a vapid and humourless money-obsessed dork.

I liked the part about Greco wanting to skate to Gloria a second time.

I'm a bit surprised. I thought it was great. He has a calm demeanor but everything he talked about was interesting, to just me I guess. He also might start with "I don't know" but after taking a second he would always elaborate or explain what was on his mind, rather than "I don't know" and wait for the next question. You can tell a few times he was trying to word his ideas correctly without, as he says "Airing someone out."

I liked that O'Dell talked about staying away from Phelps, as opposed to glorifying his legend.

Stoked about the upcoming Alexis Sablone EL episode.

This feels like a pretty disingenuous comment as it reads like he just responded “I don’t know” to their questions and then waited for a new question. He would say “I don’t know” almost as an air filler and then immediately launch into a story or explanation. I enjoyed this episode, he sounds like a chill dude. I think what makes Patrick and Epicly Later'd so good is that he has a really meandering thought process and doesn't try to be concise and give perfect answers. He's explorative in how he thinks and isn't concerned so much with the answer, which is great as a storyteller when you have a good editor to wrap things up into a package that makes sense. He's just not an amazing off-the-cuff responder, which he seems well aware of.

What an insane rant. Dyrdek episode would be sick, he must have hours worth of great stories from different eras in skating

i'll concede i mustve been in an impatient mood and have grown too accustomed to bunt guests who respond faster to questions than odell did which admittedly has nothing to do with him

he did get around to answering the questions eventually
