I enjoyed the episode, but that part when he was talking about how salty he was about not having a signature shoe was hard to listen to. Mate, you had a what, 20 year run with a signature shoe? And you wanna pout about just getting colour ways, even questioning staying with nike?! What a diva!
10 pro models and none of them iconic. Janoski's 1 shoe is on the wall of Nike best sellers alongside Jordans. It was so popular it forced Nike to change their royalty payout structure (don't know where I read this but something about Shane O'Neil getting a similar shape just renamed to avoid paying Janoski more?)
Paul might love Nike more than his own daughter, at least at one point. I am pretty sure all of his shoes are contractually obligated to him, because fifteen or so years ago he talked about getting on in an interview, “But what about a signature shoe? ” And his agent said, “Hardly anybody gets a signature shoe on Nike.” “I know. That’s why I want it.” .. Something to that effect. Makes no sense why it happened so frequently when, as you said, not a single one made it to the wall or is considered iconic in any way.
As for Shane, Nike wanted to give him his own shoe but the Janoski is genuinely his favorite. Or was at the time. He didn’t want anything else, so they added a stripe or whatever to make the “Janoski by Shane,” lol. Wildly talented on a board, yet boring as.
