CALLING ALL CORE SKATESHOPS WITH ONLINE STORES! Please read
« on: February 05, 2020, 01:21:20 PM »
Edit: changing this to a national thread, please post the shop address and phone number if possible with the URL. I'm going to try and aggregate all of this data into a master document or possibly website. Feel free to DM me with info. This is going to be a large undertaking, I appreciate the help.

The closest real/core skateshop is an hour and a half away from me at least. So I either have to order online, or make a long journey if I need product. I'm totally guilty of ordering from ccs, skatewarehouse, active, and big online shoe stores in the past. In the last 5 years or so, I've put a stop to that and order exclusively from core shops. I would like to aggregate a list of shops with online stores on the east coast to make it easier for people to put money into places that give back to skateboarding. I want to limit this thread to the east coast because I would like to put my money back into the areas I will be skating. I hope others will start to do the same. Please only post shops that have skate events, sponsor locals, and give back to skateboarding. The mega sale thread of big box stores was my motivation for this. And I couldn't help but think that none of those sites need anymore promotion. I'm going to start with the ones I frequent the most, this is in no way a complete list. Please make additions as necessary.

orchardshop.com

laborskateshop.com (coming soon)

njskateshop.com

ignitionskates.com

plusskateshop.com

blacksheepskateshop.com

And how could I possibly forget skateparkoftampa.com

Please add to this list and help let people know where they can spend their money more responsibly. If you can't afford shop prices, I get it. But if you can, and you're spending your money elsewhere, you're part of the problem.

Idk if I would classify Michigan as east coast. After starting this thread I thought about how cool it would be to have like a mega thread divided into mini threads for each state. I feel like that would be a super useful tool. I'm not a mod though, I'm not sure how to go about that. Can we get a mod in here?

This place has to be drop shipping or something. There's no way they actually have 77 pages of decks in stock. Pricing is weird too, seems like it's using an algorithm.

I've ordered from places like that before and it took almost a month for my box to come and when it did it was missing a deck. Had to go through my bank to get refunded because the shop just ignored all communications. Not saying it's going to be the same thing there, but I'm really wary of ordering from places like that now.

My biggest gripe for most shop's online presence is that they only list the width of decks and only have a stock image of the board, leaving me to guess what the overall shape might be like or look for the board elsewhere with more details on measurements etc. It's 2020, I want to see the shape from the top, the side, and I want to know the length, wb, nose/tail measurements. If smaller shops want to compete with the likes of SW/Tactics, they need to make better sites and be less lazy about including specs that idiots like myself obsess over.

Give them a call. Customer service is where core shops will always win. I guarantee any shop will be more than happy to answer questions over the phone. And also, managing a website/inventory is a full-time job in itself. Most shops only have a few employees. Give them some slack, for all they give back.

All good dude! Maybe you should start a thread for a central region? Idk, it's not a big deal at all. I just wanted to keep the list concise. Thanks though.

Nocturnal and Kinetic have merged... not sure in what capacity. I don’t live in Philly anymore.

This is a dope thread.
Thank you.
This is the antidote to people talking about their ‘haul’ from ‘daddy’s boardshop’ or wherever they went. Gluttony really gets me fired up apparently.

I feel you man, that's why I made this. I'm considering making this into something bigger, much bigger.

Online shops, please add at least length and wheelbase to all decks.

Also if you follow a shop online and they post stuff almost all of them will ship if you give them a call.
Vu does this all the time

agreed. This was mentioned earlier - about amount of time needed for upkeep for a shop mgr to run the shop and online store.
I figure just a DM should do the trick if I’m curious about that.
Even at my local I gotta take out the tape measure to see after the employees aren’t sure off the top of their head.
