It’s admittedly hard to put into words, but if you’ve ever seen Anthony Fantano videos, you’ll kinda see what I mean. Perhaps I’m exaggerating slightly, but there’s no denying the modern music landscape has changed, and it’s for the worst in my opinion. Everything is reduced to ironic jokes, about “aesthetics”, and about your social media presence. Everything has become nihilistic and insincere and I just find it kind of gross.

This isn't really anything new, even if the specific fads they're chasing are. There's always been low brow pop artists following trends for appeal, and if today they're specifically trying to make their songs "meme-y" then that's just the latest thing. Unless I'm still not getting the point here. It's an interesting development for sure, but I don't find it very bothersome because I don't think there's ever been a better time in history to be a consumer of music than now.
