Actual Medium/Standard Shaped board
« on: July 08, 2020, 07:26:30 AM »
I have been into the whole gear madness recently and I have been trying to find the ideal board so that I get that and only that instead of getting new stuff everytime and messing up my game (or at least thinking that's the reason it's messed up). So I noticed that I actually like my deck to be an actual medium on all aspects - that would be medium concave and medium kicks. I ride 8.5 decks with a 14.5 wheelbase, now every brand I have tried has something weird about their shape. I tried a Baker deck with the OG concave and it was flat af, then an element team deck that was pretty good but when I got a pro model again it was flat as hell. I got some dlx decks that were pretty dope but then I got some others that were totally flat - then I figured that with dlx you draw the lottery each time depending on what number of the mold you get (1 for steep to 4 for flat) I know that dwindle decks (santa cruz and creature) have super steep kicks so I was wondering if anyone has found something that's consistently somewhere in the middle.

I think it has to do with the press.

I buy the same shape from polar Everytime and it's always a little different each time.
I want to fight you so badly richard

IMO the DLX press number give a slight difference in concave but it is something you can get used to pretty quickly. Stick with Generator / BBS for the most middle of the road decks, while they have more concave they tend to last longer than PS Stix.

Polar’s 8.5 with 14.5wb has been pretty consistent for me, kicks are med-steep and concave is not flat.

I think your best bet would be shooting for a 2 or 3 on the DLX mold. If you have a local just check them out in person. Otherwise if you order from an online brick and mortar store, Uprise, No Comply, Cowtown, ect. you can ask for a mold number in the comments.

Stepped on a friend's polar 8.5 recently. It was pretty flat

Alltimers had an 8.5 that felt pretty medium.
If you want the same thing, over and again, probably should look into the dwindle/nhs stuff. I don’t favor them, as they don’t feel very lively, to me, but they are supposedly very consistent.

I've had 2 or 3 Polar 8.5s, and one of them was a little steeper than the others.

The recent 8.25" polar I picked up felt very middle of the road in all aspects.

Have you tried Black Label?

They’re BBS but dont have the stamp on the front truck...everyone ive had seem medium concave especially around 8.5-8.6 ive tried...the wider ones get flatter.

Thanks for the replies, a friend also suggested zero decks, I will try some of these out and post something here. I'll probably try a polar next.

Generator/BBS would be my first pick, like others have mentioned. Outside of that, Pennswood standard concave is medium in kicks/concave, especially sizes bigger than 8 wide. (The 8’ seem to usually have a 14’ wheelbase whereas the bigger decks usually have longer wheelbases around 14.25 or more, at least in my experience. I only mention wb because the smaller decks shorter wb means more fingers of flat which makes the decks pop differently than the other medium kick decks I’ve tried).

For sure. Hill Street Blues is sick. All this is sick. I trust in you.

I feel all SF skaters who are in the streets should definitely be buying magenta.
