When you get in, keep your shoulders parallel to the ledge unless you want to go fakie and push through it with your back foot. You want most of your weight on that back foot.

An angle might be easier at first, but I always ride pretty parallel to it. It's really all in the back foot. Remember that.

maybe try going straight on and ollie-ing over the back.  Don't make it a habit, but it might help to learn it.  I usually hit it with a slight angle, and I almost always go to fakie.  Its probably better to learn it to forward though; you have more control that way.  Do what Nate said about keeping your shoulders parallel to the ledge.

^

1. roll up with your shoulders parallel to the ledge.
2. compress nice and low to focus on the pop and make sure you get the tail above the ledge
3. get the part of your board directly under your heel onto the ledge
4. put all your weight on your back foot and push that fucker in front of you as much as possible.
5. come out to regs because everyone knows it looks better

Thanks, fellas. I'm a'work on this shit.

It's always been one of the illest tricks ever, but one that I slept on forever because I found them so difficult.

Disregard thee last posts.

Learn to stall them on a curb or low ledge.  Learn them real good.

Find a ledge which is a bit higher, maybe a bit lower than a bench.

Slight angle works better.  Don't overwax.  This trick is best when it is pushed, not sat upon.

Ollie straight up, then poke and push with your back foot.

Keep shoulders straighter if you want to come out to regs, turn them for fakie.

Most important part is learning to stall them on curbs.

Good luck.

You must approach this trick with reckless abandon.  Do you skate really slow?

Yes, I thought about learning them this way o I can get used to transfering my weight to my back foot. It's nice out, I'll try a bunch today.

speaking as someone who has never understood the concept of backside tailslides, but as someone who has previously had the nollie version on lock, the other day I spent an hour or so figuring out how to get into them on curbs. I think this is good, if only for getting used to the motion. If you concentrate on it too much, then you're going to find it hard when you try and roll up to anything higher with any speed.

That said go skate a curb and scoop the shit out of that back foot, it's all in the shoulders, and I'd suggest a slight angle at first....

Feel free to ignore all this though, as I've only just worked out the motion to get my tail onto a curb and the aforementiond nollie version on blocks has long since left the building anyway... Just know sliding a backtail to regs to fakie from regular or from nollie feels awesome. And that's what counts. Now if only I could do back 5's on anything higher than a curb, and then figure out how the hell you get into a Backsmith smooth enough to grind the shit out of it...

Fucking winter.
