dude
was it started by a skateboarder is a meaningful distinction
Which is why people love Nike, adidas, New Balance, Vans, etc., right? I really don't see why it matters whether or not the profits at the top flow to a skateboarder or not. "Skate capitalism" is a very weird urge I see here which I cannot explain.

Sidenote: The price people can afford / accept AND companies margins are the main reason skate shoes are made in these countries
lol you don't say!
Nike, Adidas, and Vans may not have been started by skateboarders themselves, but more or less get a pass, since they've largely done their best to cater to skaters' wants/needs within the culture we enjoy. And not just kook it like Cariuma does. I hate to say it but they legitimized themselves (because they had the money to do so) in a semi reasonable way. Videos, good team, shoe tech actually for skating, etc. Does that mean I will bend over backwards for those companies? No. I still prefer skating smaller actual skater-created/run brands: Soletech mostly, but also Lakai, State, Fallen, etc. over the years
New Balance # was actually started by skateboarders who wanted to take classic NB and use their storied designs/tech/comfort and make quality skate shoes. Skaters legitimized NB# and that's the biggest difference compared to Nike/Cons, and Adidas. Vans has always been surfer/skater vibe since the beginning, so that's how they got their in.
Cariuma corpo heads looked at all of that legacy and said "FUCK IT! WE'RE GOING STRAIGHT TO THE TEET: MALLEABLE YOUTH WHO WATCH CRINGE YOUTUBE/INFLUENCER SKATERS!" It's shameful that Cariuma has no respect for the laurels of an industry they're trying so hard to break into. What's worse, it's working since I've seen a handful of kids with Cariuma on their feet..
Plus all their shoes like shit and are filled with eco greenwashing bullshit that we see right through.
