Do you wear the same size in all skate shoes?
« on: November 03, 2020, 10:23:33 AM »
I'm all fucked up with my shoe size and looking for some opinions and preferences.

For the longest time I've been wearing size 11 and not really questioning it. I just finished up skating a pair of Adidas Matchbreak Supers size 11 and switched over to Vans Old Skool Pros size 11, but they seem to have a bit more toe room and it was really throwing me off.

I ended up picking up a pair of Cons Louie Lopez Pros size 10.5 and put the Old Skool Pro's on the side for now. These Louies fit fine, a little snug on the sides, but totally fine length-wise.

The Louie's are just about done for, so I picked up some Vans Slip-On Pros and Sk8-Hi Pros, both size 10.5. The Slip-On Pros seem a bit tight on the sides and the Sk8-Hi's seem to fit fine after getting my feet in them. Not much toe room in either though.

So now I'm like, fuck, what size am I even anymore? 10.5 or 11?

I'm about to be 31 and really not tryin to fuck my feet up by wearing the wrong size shoe, so I really wanna figure out what I should be going with here.

So what is your preference? How much toe room do you prefer? A half inch, inch or so? None at all, toes right up against the tip of the shoe without crushing your toes. Do you wear the same size in all skate shoes?

Nike, Vans, Sole Tech, State = TTS
Cons and NB# = depends on the shoe last
Adidas = they don't make my exact size

My advice is to measure the actual length of your foot and compare it to the size chart of the brand to be sure, that's how I found out Adidas doesn't even make an exact size for 10.125" feet, which is why 8s are too small and 8.5s are too big: The increments between their sizes aren't equal.

Size 10 for everything. Chucks, work boots, Vans, Adidas, always the same. I always wondered about people who wear four different shoe sizes.

my foot flattened out or something within the past year or two. Wore 12, now I wear 13.

12.5 is nowhere to be found so some shoes i have a bit of toe room and it's okay. Room for thicker socks.

You think you guys got sizing problems? I have developed two different size feet apparently. One is a 10.5 and one is about a 9.5
I get away with a 10 in vans, but all other companies one foot hurts and one foot floats..it sucks

damn this is relatable. I'm having the same exact dilemma - I've always worn 11, but now I'm wondering if I'm a 10.5???

Dunks, GT Blazers, Half Cabs, Vans Slip Ons - 11
Sk8-Hi, Old Skool, NB Tiago, Cons - 10.5

I have been liking the tighter fit of 10.5s in the shoes I listed above. Typically they stretch out just enough to be perfect, although they're definitely really tight at first.

It's funny seeing what people size up or down in and realizing that you do the opposite in many cases. Peoples feet are so different that there is no real way to definitively say one should go up or down in a brand.

I'm anywhere from a 10.5 to an 11.5 and that varies even between models from the same brands.

They need to add a .75 size or .25 size because they fit me a quarter too tight or a quarter too loose

I pretty much always buy size 11. Sometimes they might be too big or too small. I just deal with it for the most part and adjust my sizing if I buy a weird fitting shoe a second time.

I wear 12 in everything. But half sizing up is difficult at that size not a lot of 12.5s and I have wide feet so sizing down worries me so if I see something that’s not TTS I will usually pass on them

Size 8 on everything except NB# which 90% of time they're 0.5 bigger.
Some 8.5 will work if I can't find 8. IE ave pro and Kyle Walker pro

If your shoes ever feel like they are just a bit small or just a bit big or blown out, I have two solutions for you.

The thin cheap flat insoles I get in grocery or department stores are really good under existing pro insoles if the shoes are getting blown out which gives it a tighter fit and still allows decent board feel in my Vans, as well as making it just a bit more cushioned.  Some come in "odour control" or whatever fancy thing, and others are just plain thin pu rubber type material but for a dollar they can give shoes a bit more sustained life.

For the other side of things, shoe stretchers work really well if you need one or both shoes a bit bigger and cannot get them like that, be it wider or longer, or extra room in a toe or other area, etc.

I have used a pair of stretchers on shoes that are slightly too tight and also this big custom single for a while now (especially when my ingrown toenail gets really touchy) and it is the difference between having shoes I struggle in because they are too tight (size 11) or shoes I can wear all day but cannot skate in because they feel too big (size 12).

Australia doesn't really have access to half sizes, even though I have bought plenty over the years from US skate shops, but the custom end I made with cardboard and sticky tape is a lifesaver on my toe.

See the last pic for that one.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I wear anything from an 8.5 to a 10 in #NB. I wear a 9 in every other shoe brand except for Lakai which doesn't seem to have a size that fits my foot.

Just measured after a day of skating and my feet at 11"

According to the Adidas size chart, I am an 11. I've skated a few pairs of Adidas size 11 and I'd say that's accurate.

Vans' size chart, on the other hand, is saying I am a 10... which there is no way. My feet fit pretty damn snug in my 10.5 Slip On Pros, but fit a bit better in my 10.5 Sk8-Hi Pro's. Those still seem pretty snug to the point that I'm just not sure though.

So right now it's looking like for me with 11" feet...

Busenitz Vulc, Matchbreak Super, Slip On Pros - 11
Old Skool Pro, Sk8-Hi Pro - 10.5 I guess?

My main concern is toe room. Like should I want my toes right up against the tip of the shoe?

Glad there are others, my right foot 10.5' left is 11' and a little wide at the toes.
i kinda like there to be little room in the toe if its a cup, vulc kinda want it right to the edge.
currently trying to figure out if the "Adidas Copa Nationale" would fit me better in 11 or 11.5

I wear a 10.5 in all Nikes except for a 10 in Team Classics and the old SB Free model from 2016 fit long too. I also wear a 10.5 in all Adidas shoes except for a 10 in the City Cups and in the old Ronan model. I wear a 10.5 in every pair of Vans I have ever tried on with no exception. I wear a size 10 in all Converse including Chucks, half size down for all Cons. New Balance is tricky, I wear a 10 in the 212/213 but I wear an 11 in the New Balance cupsoles I have tried so far, although Roth has said since then that NB adjusted all their lasts to fit true to size now.

Something that I don't think anyone has said yet is that not all shoe companies make shoes equally - fit, size, volume, insole type, etc.  They all use different lasts on what they think the "normal" foot shape is.
You'd think a size 10 would be roughly the same but it's not, for some reason.

I'll range anywhere from a 10.5 up to a 12, but this is not because I don't know my shoe size, but because brands don't fit the same in the same number size. I don't know actual measurements of my feet. Never really done that.i should do that soon, actually.

My normal size: 11. Not sure if anyone shares similar size differences

- Cons CTAS Pro low/high, One Star Pro, One Star CC Pro, Louie Lopez (some people say LL are TTS but not me), and Jack Purcell Pro: 10.5
- Cons Fastbreak Pro, Checkpoint Pro, Breakpoint Pro, Pro Leather: 11

- NB 212/213: 10.5
- NB 288, 440, 868, 379, 358, 255: 11.5 (even on the newer lasts that are supposed to be "TTS")
- NB 598, 533 v1 and 533 v2: 12 (v2 I could probably do an 11.5 in hindsight)

- Vans Vulc/Cup: 11
- Vans Ultratange 1 and 2: 11.5 (could almost do 12, that shit is narrow)

- Adidas Tyshawn, Liberty Cup, Seeley, Adiease (regular and premiere), Superstar (old vulc one and new pro cupsole one), Suciu 1 & 2, Buzenitz Pro (cup), 3st 3 and 4: 11
- Adidas Buzenitz Vulc 1/2: 11.5

- Lakai Newport (cup and vulc), Atlantic, Proto, Bristol, Griffin, Sheffield, Cambridge: 11

- Emerica most models: 11
- Emerica Figgy Dose, Romero Americana: 11.5

- eS Accel Slim, Accel Slim Plus, Silo, all vulcs, Accel OG, Contract (reissue), SLB (slim reissue), SLB Mid (reissue), SLB '97 (reissue), Tribo, Scheme: 11
- es Evant, Symbol, Omega, Sparta, Quattro: 11.5

- etnies vulcs: 11
- etnies Veer, Veer Slip, Score, Marana/Marana Mid, Joslin 1, Joslin 2, Swivel, Lo-Cut, Cartel, and Senix Lo, pretty much any current cup: 11.5

- Nike: nearly everything 11
- Nike Dunk high elite, Koston hyperfeel 3, Air Force 2: 11.5

- DC Lynx, Kalis OG, Evan Smith's, TFunk, most vulcs: 11
- DC Maswell, Penza, Manteca, Kalis S, Legacy Slim, Pure, and Syntax: 11.5

- Fallen: 11

- Proper: 11

- State: 11 (some of the best stock insoles in shoes on the market right now)

That's all for now. I can tell when shoes don't fit right because of shape or the last they use is smaller/bigger than my normal size. After reviewing all of this, I have a bunch of shoe sizing knowledge sitting in my brain for so many shoes I'll never buy or never buy again (let alone skate) because of my experience trying them on or buying a certain size online based on reviews. I hope this post helps others on sizing for some model, though!

Well for example Converse itself says that Chucks runs at least half size too big, so I'd guess  it's just you who's not that picky if shoes don't fit right in your feet. :D

Every skate shoe so far in 10s accept for Vans, 9.5.  Classic chucks for me are size 9.

No I do not. It ranges between 10.5 - 11.5

NB NM212: 10.5
Nike SB Dunk: 11
Dc Tribeka: 11.5

-Really checking to see if a shoe fits you properly requires two people. Stand up straight and look forward. Having your weight centered will spread your feet to their most expanded size. Don’t do this in the morning, do it in the evening. Your feet expand throughout the day.

-Don’t buy into anyone making broad generalizations about sizing, it really is a case by case basis because everyone’s feet are different and all brands are inconsistent between models and even between different colorways of the same model sometimes (usually would only happen if the last changed.) No one can really say a shoe is true to size universally because depending on foot shape, it might be true for one person but not another.

-Wearing shoes that are too small is fucked for your feet, your toes, and the rest of your body really

-Your feet may get bigger as you age. I’m 31 too and I have had to size up over the last few years.

-Wear what fits and don’t feel tied to a specific size number

-Buy shoes that compliment the unique shape of your foot

-when you’re asking around about sizing on a shoe before ordering online, don’t go with just one suggestion. Try to get a range of responses and look for a consensus but be prepared for the fact it still might not work for you.

In your opinion, how much space between the tip of your toes and the tip of the shoe is too much? How much is too little?
