Sunshine melted a bunch of snow today so streets and spots in the downtown area where I live were a no-go. Decided to give the local parking garage another shot... Last week I checked it out under the appeal that it is a known spot and isn't a bust. It was 98% dry in there but really fucking dusty/dirty, I mean coated with a layer of dust. Ate shit after skating into a random pile of dirt/garbage, was over it and found a dry ledge somewhere else to fuck around with.
Today, the dirt garage was my only option. I was having fun at first after landing a few tricks on flat without really warming up and carving around patches of dust. Then I found an area with a waxed curb and ledge and my spirits really lifted. Was gonna keep it low impact and skate the curb since it was so cold and I suck anyway, but try as I might I could not fucking bs slappy it. No matter how hard I tried to be heavy in the front and light with my back foot to get the back truck on, I would always just do some sort of willy abomination grinding to a halt or turn into a bs board, which also felt like garbage. Was frustrated... I have not had an issue with them for years, even on bigger curbs than this one. I decided to just have fun and do some good ol fs slappies. They felt great so I charged it with the hope of holding onto one past a patch of dirt and grime on the ground near the middle of the curb length. Stuck going full speed, board sent into dirt, hands into different grime pile, bearings filled with shite and two of them broken.
I did do a much needed deep clean of my bearings after the fact though, and thankfully I had a few rusty backups I could throw in to replace what was lost to dirt garage. Funny thing is I'll probably be back there tomorrow. Shalom to all the winter skaters!
