Stecyk needs a parallel. Someone who was instrumental in the early years of filmmaking

Atlantic Drift always gives me Chris Marker vibes (a la Sans Soleil).

Benny Maglinao I would place somewhere between Michael Haneke and Robert Frank.

Beagle and John Waters is spot on.

Good shit in this thread.

Atlantic Drift and Yorgos Lanthimos
[close]

Jacob Harris has been pretty vocal about the David Lynch influence in his stuff, but Lanthimos is also a good pull.

His vocal influence is what doesn’t make him Lynch.  Lynch didn’t do that, he’s an original.  Jacob would have to be someone who’s famous for referencing their idols

Allen.

Fancy Lad crew - Lloyd Kaufman with some Clive Barker and Cronenberg thrown in.

Edit: Love the Colin Read/Gondry comparison, though I get some straight up Stan Brakhage vibes from his work at times as well.

O'Shea brothers - George Lucas

First 3 films were excellent and then just put out crappy sequels without starting a new project.

The only analogy that works is that Ron Howard was an actor turned director and Greg Hunt is a pro turned filmer, but there are several who fit that bill.

The references to Lynch’s films are incredibly prevalent in Jake’s videos. There’s a lot of subtle ones like the shot of the waving man from the London bus in the St. Paul episode just like the waving fireman from blue velvet. It’s clear he takes inspiration from more than just Lynch but the comparison to his work is pretty spot on.

i only know vase.  sounds like his lynch boner doth over floweth if he's still doing it.

Referencing Lynch doesn’t make him the filmer version of Lynch, it makes him Brian DePalma who used to do something similar but with Hitchcock

nice. not to mention blowup/blow out. i'm convinced. A+
