I like AO interviews because he calls it how he sees it.

I remember running into some Nike dudes at a bar back in 2013 and asking where Alex was going and they said “ Looks like FA”. Nice to know they weren’t bullshitting me lol.

Interview also confirmed my criticism in another thread that Cyrus is a dookie graphic designer lol

And Aidan cool guying Mango is funny as fuck. That would be like if Vincent Alvarez didn’t get on Chocolate because of Castillo.

Edit: and I’m backing the “Prevent this tragedy era Ethan Fowler, but in shape” phase Alex is going through. Those were some nice clips.

Alex's honesty is much appreciated and refreshing. Not really sure why people think this dude is a narcissist. This is an interview clip.

As I am writing this there is Winkowski banner playing at the top of the page.

The Aidan bit is laughable for sure.

AO rules, would make out with him.

in 2018 i was on vacation in NYC and one day i was skating around Tompkins to grab lunch after the session and Alex Olson passed by riding a fixed bike, and looked me in the eye with a "who the fuck is this kid?"

very strange vibes from this interview

the part about Aiden and Chris genuinely pissed me off if that's true. sounds like Aiden was trying to swaggerjack him considering Aiden's style is essentially just a worse and less graceful version of Chris's. he wishes he could skate like dangerous Crango.

  • he's starting to talk more like his dad, which is funny
  • he's also starting to have the thousand mile new age weirdo gaze
  • not sure why anyone is surprised that aiden said "no" to mango joining 917. aiden seems to take things pretty seriously. mango seems to treat skating like kind of a goof. just look at Frog and ask yourself if you could ever imagine aiden on that team. conversely, look at FA and ask yourself if Mango would ever fit in over there.

Alex will always be one of my favorites. He has a powerful but zen style, mindful conduct, and an honest personality. He tells shit like it is, and if something is wack he's not afraid to do shit his own way and blaze his own trail. He's also not afraid to show vulnerability or humility which is a nice distinction from all the tech robots who are very stale. It's very refreshing and inspirational. I wish we could have more footage but he's on his own shit which is fine.

It sucks to see 917 implode but all good things come to an end. Excited to see his next move.

Do not get the hate and people calling him insufferable.   Seems like one of the few skaters with a brain and a point of view as opposed to all the braying morons doing revs or hellriding

I like him but he's always, always came across as 'too cool for school'. It was way worse when he was on Girl but embarrassed about it and would just constantly trash everyone and everything he was involved with. Seems he's getting more self aware with age.

I feel like there’s Alex’s too cool for school which is about rejecting before they can reject you and there’s the Supreme/GX1000 too cool for school which is jocky and asshole-ish

It's interesting hearing him hate on their design ideas when I remember when he first started 917 he was talking about how he had JUST learned photoshop and the first couple of graphics were the product of that. But I'm sure he's been designing for a while now so maybe he has a better eye.

I liked the idea his friend had of just consolidating everything and making it one brand, Bianca Chandon has been pretty quiet and 917 doesn't seem fully there, if he put all his energy to one thing we'll actually see a full fledged vision being shown. The FA comment was interesting, sounds like a lil bit of bad blood.

AO seems cool, it seems like he overthinks a lot and would definitely benefit from never reading internet comments lol

Alex should run with the idea of guest pros + travel trips. If he was really about it he'd do one on one trips to cities and just skate the local spots and take in local attractions, Richard Ayoade's Travel man style, except minus the humor and crank up the awkwardness haha

Team Mango over here, however without Aidan gatekeeping we probably wouldn't have Frog soo... thanks I guess?

His interviews are usually more interesting than most. I always think he's cool but... is he? flaking on everything and everyone is no way to live long term. at some point you run out of luck and nike money

I think the era of the cool guy dilettante is over and I wonder what he's going to do in middle age. my bet is just marry someone with celeb or family dough. i just say that because I knew a lot of dudes like him in NYC during his tenure there and thats what they all wound up doing

I wonder about what 98% of pro/am skaters are going to do in middle age.

"the future... is the past. HEY MAN!" that bit got me.

I like Alex, he's got a great name to start but he seems pretty genuine - I once saw him no comply a parking barrier on houston street and yelled from across the way, he looked pretty unfazed. I could definitely see the attitude towards dill not being hate as much as that dude is probably just a fucking lot.
Suns out, im going skating. chow

Love the AO/Dill beef. Next board is a 917 for sure. Alex, I'm riding with you and would fuck with the 917 x Chi collection:

"But for $5 extra, you could also make them "crystal powered." The Chi Pants catalog explained, "We sew a very small, perfect crystal in the back seam of your pant, right above the base of the spine. You won’t feel the crystal; you’ll just feel the energy."

Ostrow said, 'We’ve had a very good response from people who have (crystals) in their pants. They feel a certain bubbling, tingling sensation up the spine. It’s not just a big lump in your pants.'"

Maybe im late to the party on this news, but did not know that Baker Boys distributes 917 now. Was looking at the summer catalogs on baker boys and saw that 917 is included on their website now. Maybe some baker FL homies end up on 917 in the future?
