"Boring" skaters who are actually not boring
« on: May 21, 2021, 09:56:41 AM »
Silas gets too much shit for being "boring" somehow, but he is actually incredibly creative, has impeccable spot/trick selection, is both tech and gnar depending on the situation, and his style is excellent.

Who else is "boring", but not actually boring?  Why do some skaters track as "boring" when an objective look at them shows the opposite is true?  Is it likelier to happen when someone's image or sponsors overshadows their skating?

Chaz Ortiz. Might be alone here, but I enjoy watching him skate but I know plenty who don't and view his skating as "robotic."

Aureilan Giraud is a guilty pleasure of mine...boring as you know what’s coming and he’s got the jocky/gym/monster hat wearing narcissistic vibes going on but hammers aplenty

2 from Magenta come to mind: Leo Valls and Jimmy Lannon.

I don't find them boring at all in terms of style and small trick selection but can easily see why some could.

Giraud is almost so offensive to me that he transcends boring and enters the the realm of being spectacularly gross, but at least you know who to look to for splay-limbed 360 flips and hardflip bs 180s down big shit.

I used to think Shane O’Neill was a boring robot, but I have come to admire how fluent and effortless he does his super technical tricks.

I'm not sure I want to contemplate Berra purely as a skateboarder, because if I did I might find it hard to deny he had a little something to him.

Jereme Rogers was super boring to watch skate.   But the train wreck that followed has been highly entertaining.

i know what you mean. i was really gald his parts seemed as lacklustre as his personality (his contributions to 'skate more' and 'mind field' being very forgettable). but then i saw foundation's 'rolling thunder' and unfortunately he really kills it in that one...

I know, but it's like an even split between people who think he's boring and people who are somewhat sensible.

Regrettably, that part is extremely sick.

watching jimmy lannon skate in person is quite a ducking thing to see. insane pop.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Not for anything, but watching any pro in person is generally a trip. There’s only been a handful of dudes I’ve seen in person who didn’t wow me with their talent...
At least when you're a washed-out hipster douchebag in NY, you can milk it at some decent looking, hard to skate spots. In LA you're just a tan-lined faggot in a school yard somewhere.

Silas get love here cause he is from east coast. Imagine the same dude and style (boring as hell) canadian or californian.
Decenzo brothers both have more flavor.

i've got a soft spot for dave bachinsky. the cromer connection is so random. i love those weird coping tricks he does. true to his grunge, backwoods style which represents a much larger portion of the skate community than you might think.
