Seemed like they were always playing DJ Shadow in the background

Those Pommie announcers were shit, they were sucking Nyjahs dick so hard, you would've thought he invented skateboarding.
Is it true?  Or did you read it on the slap message board?

- Axel wearing a belt and looking the least athlete-esque

- Micky papa scoring 6.66 on a run

- It’s weird seeing Creature and Toy Machine boards at the Olympics

- I guess this is what y’all have been talking about, the Canadian channel I watched it on had these really bad English announcers who STILL used the word “amplitude,” called a front blunt a front tail, and numerous other atrocities

Nijah is not an Olympian, ragdoll scalamari would thrive there. Huge mistake by team USA coach.

The commentators barely touched on how important this was to Olympic skateboarding™️. Glad this guy took one for the team.

I read the comments here how the format needs rethinking as the contest boils down to what two tricks are done on the big rail.

Then my 70+ years old mom called to tell me she had watched the event and her comment was "it was nothing but guys jumping down that big handrail". She's a harsh but honest critic!

I hadn't planned on watching it, but decided to record the men's street finals.  Turned it on and it was a little repetitive, but i was still curious who would win medals.  Then right when they started the best trick portion the feed cuts to women's cycling....for four and a half hours.  What the fuck NBC?  That's the reason they brought skating to the olympics in the first place.  Finish the finals and then you can cut to a cluster of spandex pedaling down a flat street or track.
"Give it a name."

Some sports books were offering insane odds on this stuff. 30/1 on Shane winning gold, Leticia not favored in women’s, ect. They were literally just making numbers up.

This is a golden opportunity for some numbers-savvy skate nerds to clean up. The bookie guys have no clue how to calculate skating scores.

Yeah, so, I've been last minute deep diving into this. Looking at sportsbooks and exchanges, no one has any idea, looking at how the money is going. I've never seen so much "dumb money" on a betting exchange before.

IMO the best way would be probably - put a poll up on slap, get everyone's picks for gold. Then aggregate that info and convert it to a percentage/odds/money line. Whenever the bookies offer better odds than what the poll suggests, you would probably see a profit by taking all those lines.

A second strategy, as I would hazard a guess that there is no liquidity in these markets - is to get together as a group and just shift the money line on everyone until you've hedged most of the frontrunners. Little more involved though.

This is probably the one time it's profitable to have skateboarding knowledge.

They had some good 90's stuff playing in the background. And if you listende closely a lot of stuff that came out of old skatevideos!

The commentary in Dutch was pretty funny, seemd like they were having fun, and it was a team of good skaters that did it.

Tonight women's street, curious. I'm already cringing at the thought of hearing at least one of the commenters ... ugh.

In australia we had nick boserio commentating (did a great job) until Shane didn’t make the cut then they didn’t show any more , had to switch to a streaming app with the terrible uk commentators who kept getting trick names wrong

I recorded it and I'm watching later. I only saw the first heat and fell asleep since it was 2 am here.

I saw Shane skate, and even though he didn't land anything, and didn't even make the cut ... this is a huge win for him as well. Dude's going to sell a looooooot of boards to people/skateshops.

Congrats to Yuto, this is awesome. Jagger looked so silly in that kit.
Hyped for Yuto!

Jagger dancing around and playing on his phone between runs was so embarrassing. This is the first time I was rooting for US to lose.

Nigel getting an Olympic colorway and placing 7th is too good!

"The blazing sun softened rubber joints on the boards' wheel axles, making them harder to control."

Well I guess now we know what happened. Nigel's rubber joints softened. Classic.

is the fact that he lives in california not just an immediate backhand to his claim that its too hot to skate?

At one point while Axel Cruysbergh was talking a run halfway through it they cut to a shot of Vincent Malou on the sidelines eating a banana then didn’t cut back until Axels run was over and the banana was finished.

The fact that they can’t even hire announcers who know the tricks is nuts, it’s the olympics

cariuma took home the most medals, lol.

I don't understand the judging at all. Yuto's good but for years now in best trick he does the same handful of tricks and even at that the tricks he does are similar, yet the judges throw him 9's all day. Even his run scores always seem inflated, during which he always skates slow as hell and ends up doing fewer tricks then the other skaters. He also flipped his board once during the entire finals.

The dude pops out of nollie more often than any other stance so the judges shouldn't treat that like it's his hardest stance. I'm pretty sure doing any of those tricks fakie would be harder for him at this point. The judges never penalize him for repetition either.

The judges were all around terrible though, Angelo got shafted multiple times (pun half Intended), Hofler got shafted on his finals run scores, Axel got shafted on the frontside flip big time. Honestly that was the best trick of the broadcast. He passed over the rail at it's very peak and it was a perfect fs flip. should have been a 9 for sure and they gave it a 6 or something, what a fucking travesty.

I think that as long as Yuto landed 4 tricks they were going to make sure he won. The Olympics are a criminal organization after all.

Also, what the hell were they thinking doing qualifiers and finals the same day, 30 minutes apart in 90 degree heat? Seemed like everyone was so gassed the skating had become considerably less impressive by the finals.

The whole "uniform" thing was super gross too. Camera work was embarrassingly poor. Commentary was bad too. Made for a really sloppy broadcast.

Rant over. I just hope this is a one and done for the Olympics and skateboarding.

Berger. What a meltdown.

I think I'd like Axel's board shape for a cruiser/slappy board, anyone ever ride it?
