Anyone try the Shin wheels? Why there is no 60mm Spitfire nowhere?
[close]
I haven’t, I’m scared I’ll hate them, I think I’ll get 58mm connical fulls in 97a instead
[close]

I ended up buying good ole Spitfire Formular 4 Classic 60mm
I am afraid i will hate the Shin wheels as well, I usually prefer the softer stuff Oj makes.
I ordered the 97a conicals

I think they're a new addition now that the second coming of the big wheels revival is upon us.

I say give it a shot. I change wheel sizes drastically all the time and it's really not a huge adjusment. It takes a day to get used to the new pop timing, but you gain extra pop, and more comfort rolling over gnarly terrain. I'd recommend getting some risers if you're on like ventures or thunders, but Indy and Ace are manageable, wheelbite-wise, without them.

can you ride 56mm wheels? If so it’s only really an extra mm on the top/ bottom which isn’t that much in the scheme of things.
On that note, my 97a 58mm conicals just arrived!

Yeah I can handle 56s but only for curb and low ledge skating. I can try 58s but for how loose I ride my trucks, I might need 1/4 inch risers

that’s all I skate anyway ;)
Will set up my 58s on Ace AF1 and 1/8 risers, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Never have I ever seen conical full 60mm in the F4 urethane variety, so I am thinking it is a typo, maybe meant to be Classics or OG Classics which have both been available, or even the old normal urethane which comes in 60mm Classics in that shape.

Still, I am curious to hear back about it, either way.

I used to ride the old 59mm Bigheads like Dan Drehobl did and those things lasted a long, long time.

Still have quite a few sets of worn down Bigheads and other graphic options, but since F4 came out, I had been riding the Classic and Classic Full variety more than anything else.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Not sure what he was riding but axel crusbergs wheels at Tampa looked like at least 56s.

Yep, that is correct - there are no Spitfire Formula Four Conical Full 60mm wheels.

They removed the 60mm option from that listing now too.

At least there are other big wheels 58mm and 60mm wheels in stock from there as well as a lot of other shops around now too.

The Formula Four wheels come in 60mm in Classics and OG Classics, 58mm in Conical Full, Classics and OG Classics, along with some other options in the original formula too, maybe just the OG Classics in 60mm and 58mm.

There were some special limited releases of wheels in a conical full shape in 60 and 61mm over the years, but they are long gone now, unless you have some new old stock or a time machine.

These are the only wheels still around in a conical full shape from Spitfire, the original formula Classics.

The 60mm Spitfire is a mercurial beast. I bought those black Gonz classics that were out a few years ago and they were square just how I like them. When I needed new wheels I ordered some 60mm F4 classics and they were the rounded classic shape. It's odd that the shapes were different but I guess for whatever reason DLX used to put out OG Classics in 60mm for the regular line and then uses the classic shape for F4s. That was my guess anyway.

I was very bummed to see no new 60mm F4 OG Classics in the new Fall catalog but hopefully they'll do a drop when F4 Classics dry up in stores.

Yeah - good to see a selection there!

I had always found it funny they had the Bigheads (classic full shape) in bigger offset sizes 57, 59 and 63mm (with 63mm size in more of a radial shape), then the Classics (true classic shape) in the other sizes 56, 58 and 60, but as you said the 60mm Classics were never in a classic shape but in what has now come to be known as the conical full shape, but never called that.  Multiballs came out in bigger sizes of 58 and 61mm, also the same big wide rounded shapes of classic fulls, but were discontinued around the same time that F1 came out, or not too long after that anyway.

When F4 options all went to the more standard shapes with the same graphics (down to four, but now back up to twice that, but have had 11 or even 12 shaped options) there were no conical full wheels, with only Classic, Full, Tablet, etc which was also when the original Classic 60mm wheel shape was very limited in supply and production seemed to be more aimed towards special releases, eg those black ones or the following Gonz flower graphics.

OG Classic are a different shape again, thinner overall, with a smaller rounded edge, then cutaway inside, which were released in original urethane and F4, both of which have been out not so recently but only some limited options / sizes and not many it seems made it to most places.

The pandemic caused all sorts of issues, along with further urethane shortages and whatever else and manufacturing is still trying to catch up to demand, so who knows how many or when certain other wheels might be back.

It does seem like there might be another special wheel or two coming out in the bigger sizes in F4 but until that drops or is shown, I am not about to go into details.

Sorry it probably sounds like a long winded ramble, which I guess it is.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Interesting to see some of the listings there.

I feel for this poor fellow though, wanting to buy some wheels that seem out of production / very hard to get:

https://www.depop.com/products/max_drysdale2-wtb-60mm-spitfire-og-classic-please/

UK based so nothing I can do from here, but he is after a set of the OG Classics (original formula or anything) in 60mm.

This too:

https://www.depop.com/products/max_drysdale2-wtb-spitfire-conical-fulls-in/

I haven't seen any Formula Four 58mm wheels since production issues, apart from the 97 duro versions that seemed to sell out in a minute, but there might still be some out there.

I don't think he will have much luck with those requests though.

Not unless he is willing to pay significant sums of cash, those things being like collectors items.
