The homeschooled kid in my high school was weird af.

I later heard his dad told friend that he sprayed Coca-Cola on himself as a form of sunscreen protection.

@Seventyfuhkinseven do you use Coca-Cola on yourself for skin care?

Man it looks like there's a ton of new posters on here and they all share the same single brain cell. The funniest joke here is that anyone even follows this cornball anymore.

The homeschooled kids in my area (NoVA) were/are more normal than I am/was. What the fuck is with the hate? I bet most of you wannabe elitist pricks went to public school. Plenty of people on here could be making fun of y’all.

I never paid any attention to anything that Weck would do, and I'm going to go back to that now. Dude doesn't deserve the 15 minutes of minute fame he's somehow gotten.

Anecdotal, but every homeschooled person I’ve met is super weird. I’d assume it’s a result of a few things: the lack of pre-planned social interactions, exposure outside the bubble of what your parents explicitly allow/filter, confrontations with different environments, etc.

Facets of this can be improved externally (eg the internet, sports) but the fact remains that many important social cues come from learned behavior during one’s schooling years.

I don’t think anyone is taking it as serious as you (the social class equivalence feels off and unnecessary, lol) but feel however you want about it.

As somebody who was a private catholic school kid (by force of religious parents) I’ll say we’re more fucked up than the homeschool and public school population combined.

Indeed, everything is relative. All of the ones I’ve met were well mannered and socialized. Just pointing out the hypocrisy in that dated homeschooled stereotype, bb. & Social class, schmocial class. You brought it up. Just wondering, are you European?

My best friend/neighbor was homeschooled on a dairy farm until 6th grade when he promptly became the coolest kid at my public school. Shout out Jake, you da man.

Homeschooled kids aren't weird in some alien kind of way, lots of em are just hella Christian or just have much better manners than those of us who were raised on hot lunch pizza.

I went to private Christian school (evangelical) and while our shit was really fucked up and weird, there were definitely some weird ass home schoolers. Lots of floor length denim skirts and Duggar vibes from that camp.

Can vouch for a lot of homeschooled kids being weird, but I think that’s more due to the fact a  portion of homeschooled kids are homeschooled because their parents are trying to avoid giving them a secular education.

My wife was a special educator with an ma in behavior psych and my kid has autism. She (daughter) was bullied to horrific levels in public school and was missing a lot of school due to being in and out of the hospital so frequently. So, to get her into the least restrictive environment, my wife quit her job as a teacher so she could homeschool/unschool the kid full time. She’s never done better or learned more. But that’s not the case for everyone, nor am I wholesale advocating for it.

yeah i’m sure there are circumstances like that where it’s better for the kid but i think in general it’s really not helping them. I have a cousin who’s wife has no business teaching kids and she homeschools their kids who are like 10 and 8. Developmentally i’d day they’re closer to like a 6 year old it’s pretty sad. But of course there are parents who do a better job than her

Does homeschooling automatically make you weird?  No.

Does it increase the likelihood that you will wear floor-length denim skirts?  Probably.
