Don't normally pay much attention to the Supreme gear but that Orange plaid jacket that Rowan wears is nice

Video had great skating and music, but why the fuck did he add a shot of a little girl in a car (15:07) and a girl walking down the street who clearly didn’t wanna be on camera? (16:53)

You guys act as if he secretly filmed them taking a dump.

If that were the case I’d have understood the impulse to film them more, since the kinds of pedestrian cameos typical in skate edits involve them doing something outrageous or interesting, consciously interacting with the crew, not just being stared at because of their youthful female faces. Its a pattern of Bill’s from previous vids, and just because people clown it or it makes them uncomfortable doesn’t mean they’re accusing him of actual heinous shit. Its just a heinous played out look for your art.

pretty soon his videos are going to be just a blur the whole way through with occasional skateboarding sounds. then his defenders will say this was so sick.

that switch 50 from rowan is gnarly and is filmed better than 99 % of skateboarding tricks out there.
for that alone the strobeck hate is clearly the over the top answer of anti hype skaters against something that they fear to loose.
remember the pyrmid county era when all of you cool skateboard filmers felt so indie when you flipped your camera over mid line or zoomed in and out of a pattern for some cool transistons between clips? you felt so indie and artistic back than.
trying new things and filters is so sick when its not funded by hype

Love how unhinged and angry this post is.

To be fair I hate almost every skate video from Arizona too. Besides “It’s a Secret” top 10 of the 2010s

You guys act as if he secretly filmed them taking a dump.  They’re like 10 second clips that barely even show their faces.  Are we forgetting that basically every skate video ever shows non-skaters who likely don’t want to be filmed?
It has to do with the intent. It's a clip to just look cool, and at the cost of someone else. Something like the two kids talking in candyland was much more memorable, and impactful while still being tasteful. These clips are nonsense with a net negative to push an image.

I'd unironically love if Bill said "fuck it" and made a fully freaked, avant-garde skate video. Give me all the fucked angles and crazy filtering to the point that the skating is completely illegible, and make it an hour long please.

he is getting closer to this with each new edit. couple more and we'll be there

Need a trick in the middle to film here these days...

hahaha yep. i feel bad for anyone trying to get a clip on these steps at this point. hard to imagine doing any better than Kummer

You described anyone who had something negative to say about the video to a tee, definitely not “making up a guy in my head to shit on” syndrome. Except multiple dudes in this edit have skated to said music in said jeans with said beverages on camera. Cut to said sexy woman.

Your stan’d out defense of the hottest most popular video by one of the wealthiest companies in skating is funny, you must be really invested in their price-hiked regurgitations and recycles of basic cool shit from the past 25 years, as if that’s the bar for appreciating cinematography. Guessing until recently you’d never been exposed to high art and media, outside of the second-hand charade in Supreme’s advertising? Yes, paint all of us as backwards and aesthetically illiterate so you can flatter yourself as sophisticated for buying in to a streetwear marketing campaign that we think is silly and taints the actual substance of the matter, which is the skating.

to be fair I think that david beckham raises a good point. there is a conservative mindset and approach to skating that is, although venerable in some respects, stuck in its ways, prescribed, and uncreative. I mean to say this with as little negative connotation as possible.

then there are people who try to make something different/change the way people think about skateboarding and represent it, which is always a creative endeavor, for better or for worse.

and I kinda agree with david beckham. people who are stuck in an uncreative, bros n beer-style, skate paradigm are pretty lame.

Practically nobody here would disagree with that.

Pretending that the only people who would criticize aspects of this video are necessarily in some anti-intellectual and culturally conservative “beers and bro” camp, as opposed to those who like it as the smart and bold ones, is a massively reaching straw-man and bonafide exercise in self-flattery.

If you’ve actually tricked yourselves into believing this is about upholding aesthetic values against an “attack of the bumpkins,” when what you’re really defending is re-packaged watered down coolness sold back to primarily anxious FOMO-ridden phillistine teenaged suburbanites, that’s a truly poetic self-own.

No. It's just difficult to watch footage shot using a camera, with a zoomed in lens, that is rapidly moving around.

yea i cant decide wether or not something is art if it isnt supreme you are right.
luckily you found out about art when you saw ed tempelton drawing a sketch devil and a black and whit photo of a guy doing a wallie on modern architecture.

any of you ever complained about emerica videos having a green filter? exactly none.
its just so popular to hate on supreme. its easy.
i dont like the company or its customers and the whole hypebeast scene.
i just like cool shit that isnt about bro partying, the 324802034 video that wants to extremly underline the thought of
"yes we are bros and its about fun" because its so obvious. skating is pure fun with friends without filming it for like what every unsponsored skater. so like 90 percent just do it for fun anyways.
surley fun friend videos will give you a great feeling and will make u hyped to skate.
but sometimes i just like looking at young people wearing outstanding clothes making skating look easy.

There will never be words descriptive enough to capture the goofiness of defending a $1B company from benign criticism on the internet by pretending the naysayers “don’t get it” or lack sophistication. It’s like those sad dudes who stan Elon Musk and scold dissenting voices as losers with no legitimate criticism to make, “you’re just unable to comprehend his brilliance” etc. Everyone in this thread seemed perfectly capable of sharing opposing opinions about the video before Mr. beckham pretended half of us were alcoholic dimwits to soothe his insecurities.

Not sure if that’s as clear as you think it is.

I could understand people solely enjoying (or at least trying their best to enjoy) Bill’s videos for the actual skating.

Being additionally stoked on everything besides that (the filming, editing, stylization etc.) without also finding the brand’s art direction and product design at least somewhat appealing seems pretty unlikely.
