Asymmetrical decks

Anybody ever skate one? I didn’t really think they existed until I saw this Skull Skates asym reissue online today. Apparently it’s from the 80s?

Anybody ever skate this, or anything like it? Seems like it could be kinda cool, as long as you don’t shuv the board around much.

I love the idea that you can have a completely different experience on the same deck depending on your stance.

Some of those weird boards came in a "left" and a "right" option too.

I recall the Vans shoe boards that came out were fun for a minute (really just cruisers) but you could have an inside and outside grab, the right version working better for regular foot like me, or the left for a goofy foot.


Was there a story of one guy back in the 80s who was told he couldn't have an asymmetrical shape by his board sponsor, even though he wanted more of a cut in at the front heel for back side airs and anther cut in near his back toe for indy grabs, or something, so they just did the mirror of both sides to make it more accessible and the classic fish shape was created?

Might have just been someone telling tall tales though.


I never saw one of those Night Hammers in real life, but they look like fun.
