It's good to see there's brands that stick to long time injury prone pros - cf recent threads on here about Vincent alvarez and Jeremy Leabres. But there's so much more who just get put out to pasture and vanish. And it makes me wonder which of these companies that love celebrating the skateboarding "community" so much actually take proper care of their pros instead of them having to rely on charity. Anybody with some insider deets? Would definitely influence my future purchases...

Well, as an ambassador for ALL Americans, I can tell you that part of the reason is a whole lot of us are dummies.
And by dummies, I mean the sort of good folk who will not countenance the wealthiest 1% having to part with any more of their money in order to finance social programs that benefit the greater good.
Then there are the corporations who have the same protected status, in many regards, as citizens and enjoy many of the same exemptions.
I’m talking above my pay grade here, because I too am one of the aforementioned dummies, but it basically comes down to we’re more than happy to vote against our own interests based on some ideological bullshit that we gladly swallowed based on personal beliefs like religion, or how spaced out the people in large coastal cities appear to be from our more rural vantage point.
That’s an incredibly reductionist summary, but I wanted to keep it brief because… I’m a dummy.

Bro, if you came from the country that spread free market ideology at gunpoint to the rest of the world for most of the past century you might not even understand what universal healthcare actually was.  That's seriously the case with a whole bunch of people here.  Something that basic is hard to overcome because our politicians basically keep education bad on purpose so most people never even arrive at the inclination to look beyond what they've been told in the first place.

Nike certainly doesn’t give health Insurance to any of their skateboarders! Hence the fact that they are all contractors and not considered employees.. revokes any responsibility for health care and taxation.

its the health insurance lobby in the US. we allowed it to get too much power and now they basically select who gets in power in government, whether democrat or republican

I had an American doctor lecture me as we paid $1000 for our visit about the evils of our ‘free’ health care, almost in the same breath as bragging about playing golf with Obama. Basis of it was that youd be paying even more in your tax than you would for health care that you may not even use, which is madness, but also if i pay 1.5% more tax than i would so someone else can get medical help, and i never use it, thats a huge win for me. American empathy is a rare commodity in the rich.
