Slap Collaboration Screenplay
« on: May 09, 2022, 10:15:49 PM »
Toss Mid90s, Street Dreams, North Hollywood, Thrashin’, Gleaming the Cube, Lords of Dogtown into the rubbish heap.

It is our turn to write a semi-relatable, semi-watchable, somewhat pleasing movie centered around skateboarding. However, it can’t be a rehash of KIDS or tangentially related to skating like Police Academy 4.

One Slap Pal on the North Hollywood thread suggested:

“Imagine if the main character was a mix of Jim Greco’s temperament, with Jamie Thomas’ demand of others, with Kareem Campbell’s inability to pay people on time or show up to things...you would have the greatest skate movie ever.”

Okay, skateboarding has so many wild characters and stories where the truth is stranger than fiction that a dramatic film should be achievable that is not corny as fuck, not a zero to hero to zero arc, nor how brave it is to skate in pick your choice of any of the shittiest places on the planet rebellion song.

Possible Archetypes:

Creators/gatekeepers: Fausto, Dorfman, Schmitt, van Doren, George Powell

Innovators: Losi, Gelfand, Alva, Losi, Skip, Natas, Gonz, Rodney

Outsiders/anomalies: Grosso, Lance, Neil Blender, Hensley, Duane Peters, Zorlac team, Shut Skateboards

Upenders: Rocco, Ternasky, Pierre Andre, Don Brown, Steve Douglas, Ed Templeton, Jamie Thomas, Jackass, Baker

Tragic figures: Gator, Swindell, Antwuan, Jereme Rogers (obviously a large spectrum from the formers to the latters)

Icons/influencers: Olson, Peralta, Hawk, Hosoi, Carroll, J. Lee, Kareem, Dylan

Recorders: Stecyk, Brittany, Sturt, Phelps, Spike, Wolfe

Peripheral culture: Katherine Hepburn, The Beach Boys, Bart Simpson, Avril Lavigne’s Sk8er Boi, Lil Wayne, Thrasher t’s

Antagonists: parents, police, rent-a-cops, neighbors, classmates, crush who would never have anything to do with you

Stereotypes: self explanatory

Local: friends, skate shop, fave spots, doctor’s office, dreaded real job, freedom, individuality, creativity, escape, accomplishment, overcoming of adversity, acceptance, a look into a much larger world of possibility

And, Sean Sheffey, have to have a Sheffey appearance…

A middle aged almost-was, sidelined by injury, but still a curbdog with a skate industry warehouse job and party lifestyle finds out that the most hardass security guard the best spot town is the daughter he never knew he had.

Wonder how many screenplays are out there that are basically just clerks but in a skate store. "The gnarliest part of their day is.....(record skip sound effect)...the customers"

Does anybody remember the 2011 documentary Dragonslayer? I guess it’s a documentary but imo it plays out like a regular movie. Josh "Skreech" Sandoval is certainly a character.
