undeniably talented, he's like a 14 year old trapped in a 40 year old's body.
Hopefully not a kook, but if so, fuck it.

Hasn't he quit Primitive because he wasn't skating anymore??

I think that was his excuse for actually getting kicked off for asking his instagram followers for money to buy a $40,000 guitar iirc

A basic ass telecaster too, I believe.

My favorite guitar, but a tele should never cost that kind of money.

Still has the skill
wouldn't pay a penny over $39,999 for a telecaster though

At this stage i would love Flip to throw him a olive branch and put out a welcome back part featuring Penny. It could turn out to be the shot in the arm the company needs, yes Jeremy bury the hatchet.

Hmmm a cartoon style deck like the Toy Machine Bury the Hatchet with Fox and Penny shaking hands would be amazing.

That be dope great idea, but how much sicker would it be if Fox was shaking Bastien's hand on his new flip deck.

Man I read the replies before watching and went in with low expectations and I have to say that I don't understand the comments about his style, Bastien has pretty good style and piss poor trick selection maybe...But they're not one and the same thing and this part was actually really fucking good, especially for someone with such seasoned knees.

Weird seeing some of these posts. He really was considered a boss for a few years in the early 2000’s. His Sorry part left no one unimpressed.

Loved his old parts but after reading through the comments here and watching the welcome to cariuma part I see exactly what ppl mean. I was in it for like the first half but then it becomes really clear he's basically doing half cab variations and it got boring really really fast. Should have kept it to like half the edit and finished on the flip in nose Manny nollie varial heel out for nostalgia. Unfortunately cariuma has zero taste and wouldn't know a solid edit or how to create a vibe if it kicked them in the face. Probably because they aren't skaters. I'd like to see the founders footy. Don't they claim to skate?

I was in my 20s at that time. This is actually not entirely true.

A lot of people loved him for going balls out on those huge cab flips and having raw talent. But at the same time the contrived Carroll/Pappalardo/PJ loving crowd that was really picky about style hated on him. Considered him to be a goon who can only spin backside and hunch over handrailds. For instance him doing double filps and crooks to bs lipslides was definitely haram.

That was one of the most cryptic responses I’ve read in a long time. The best explanation I could pull from that was he couldn’t be himself and had negative memories associated with professional skating

I like the part and I am happy for him if he’s able to make a living out of this deal. Crazy how good he still is.
Don’t care about Cariuma, but I don’t care about Nike, NB, Adidas either.

Like a lot of people here I am not a fan of Cariuma for obvious reasons like their designs, their sponsorship strategies etc… but I am not here to talk about that.

I started « real » skateboarding (I mean skate as much as I could + getting interested in in skate history / culture etc) in 98. Few years later an indoor skatepark opened in my hometown - it was right after Sorry had came out. It was on repeat here in France. Bastien was our « American dream », he was young, talented, skating for American brands etc. That skatepark had a demo for the opening and Bastien was here. He didn’t skate that much but for us it was amazing to see him in person. His style was effortless.

That said, years passing I felt Bastien’s talent was kinda wasted… I guess he struggled with success and stardom ? His contest skater stint burned him out ? I don’t know. He could have been a Lucas Puig for example. I am kinda sad he doesn’t have decent sponsorship that could give him stability… maybe it’s now the case with Cariuma ?

I have heard stories about him but I don’t know about the truth and his personality, but I will always have a soft spot for him. Even if he congratulated himself after backside double flippin a pyramid at some contest.

Also I still have that sticker in my collection :

At the time I thought it was a casual outfit for him when he was not skateboarding but I was a kid haha

Finally watched the part, god damn he is good.

Shame he couldn't keep it together and have a great consistent career.

Feel like we would be talking about him as one of the all time greats if so
