I know I'm committing the ultimate sin in skateboarding by wearing protective gear, but I want to confidently learn how to skate bowls and I think I'll need some protective gear for that. Until I'm more experienced as a skateboarder, I will not be confident enough to drop in on something that is nearly vertical like a pool without falling. That being said, what brands make good, and affordable protective gear??

Helmet, anything certified will be fine. They all make you look like a Space Balls character if they’re certified. That sucks, but at least you know your head is protected. 187 Pro knee pads are not “affordable”, but are worth it. Very high quality (withstand many washing machine cycles) and cushion sooo much of the blow.
