Does old footage count for SOTY?
« on: November 28, 2022, 09:00:57 AM »
In the 3 Nyjah parts there are a lot of obviously old clips (still riding element) and considering he has been injured for a good amount of this year is it fair to give him SOTY even tho most of the skating was done in another year? I know Suciu is a similar situation but at least he skated the entire year.

Well kid, before the instant-media-coverage-craze pros were turning SOTY with years of footy released on their parts.

At least 2-3 years of footy by the time their parts were released and won soty:
-tony t 2002 (in bloom?)
-apples 2003 (2 flip parts)
-danny way 2004 (dc video)
-cole 2005 (zero new blood)
-daewon 2006 (cheese crackers +skate more)
-mj 2007 (Fully flared had 4-5 years of footy)
-silas 2008 (habitat inhabitants)
-leo 2010 (stay gold)
-daveeed 2012 (thrasher part)
-AVE 2015 (vans video)

so yeah, its valid to have "old footy"

Not only does old footage in a video part count it's clear that the video parts in the past didn't even have to come out the year the skater got soty.  Silas, daewon, Appleyard, dway all filmed parts years before they won.
