THAILAND
« on: February 11, 2023, 05:52:17 AM »
Hello guys,

Most posts about Thailand and neighboring countries (Cambodge, Vietnam, Laos) are a bit old, here's a new one.
A homie will soon be in Bangkok for a month or two and i told him i would ask Slap about recommendations (shops, parks, spots, etc.) so that he can have a good time there.

He might not just stay in Thailand and he's planning trips in neighboring countries.

Feel free to share purely touristic and/or skateboarding recommandations

Thanks guys !

I lived there for 10 years, the local scene in Bangkok is top notch. Your friend should go to Preduce in Bangkok and connect with the locals. Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos all have inspiring skate scenes that my friends are involved in. I have personally traveled around with Malto, Suciu, Gall, Decenzo, Reed and countless other pros around Bangkok and Thailand. Everybody absolutely loves it!

Bangkok is an amazing place to skate, so much fun and always something going on. Definitely hit up Preduce, they’ll point you in the right direction.
Rama 8 bridge is pretty central and has amazing spots all around, plenty of locals hang there too, all super friendly & accommodating.

Preduce has an awesome outdoor park that is connected to their store (new location) and it's definetly worth visiting. Hua Mark/Ramkhmhaeng University also has an awesome park. If your friend goes to the park at Ramkhmhaeng University in the morning, he's likely to see Kenny Reed there working/skating with the Thai Olympic team.

Hanoi is one on my favorite places and can't wait to go back some day, so I suggest there. I stayed near Hoàn Kiếm Lake, great area. Though very touristy, Ha long Bay is worth it for a night or 2 cruise.

For Laos, I didn't find Vientiane particularly special, but Luang Prabang is an awesome little town. Highly suggest there.

In case your friend will go to Hua mark skate park, I mostly recommended visiting Roti Board Shop located around there. They can provide you with nearby D.I.Y skate spots such as RK69 and Ladprao.

I was there in November in Phucket for a week.

There is a huge outdoor water park there called Blue Tree with a small bit nicely designed small concrete park with ledges, banks, some quarters and a small spine.

Have a skate then hit the ski-jump style waterslides

You should go to check out the Basic Skate House, it's a new skatepark that builds and operated by Lert Saeri.
He's the one of Thai legendary skateboarders.
There also have two other skate shops called Kid Skate Shop and Stamp Skate Shop.

How can you guys even skate in that heat/humidity lol? I say this as someone with South East Asian heritage. I feel uncomfortable even thinking about that thick sensory wall.

I had no idea what singlet meant. I figured it was some Aussie slang, which it might be, but nevertheless I learned some things along the way in the quest for knowledge. I came across a company that specializes in singlets.

Thing #1: The team choosing the pics for this item did a great job.
https://gruffpup.com/products/impulse-singlet-black-red

Thing #2: They have their own version of the Muska stash pocket
https://gruffpup.com/collections/jockstraps/products/gruff-pup-pocket-jockstrap-black-striped

Thing #3: They have clothing specifically designed for military personnel
https://gruffpup.com/products/combat-jockstrap

Thing #4: Basically all of their products are inclusive for people that have irritable bowel syndrome, as most of the clothing attire is available in traditional and "assless" formats.

https://gruffpup.com/

All of it looks really comfortable and perfect for lounging around the house. I'll post in the "sale gear thread" if I see any excellent sales coming up.

D88 in Pattaya might give you a discount for setting up your board and had (has?) a DIY under the bridge right by the shop.

Gonna be in Bangkok next week. Never been anywhere in that portion of earth. is it safe to skate around solo and hit parks by myself? Like, will local police arrest me for trying to skate anything?

Im hearing Preduce is the spot to connect from friends that have been and this thread.

I've skated Bangkok many years back--bumped into Michael Mackrodt--fishing lines dude--at this fun spot under the Rama VIII bridge (https://maps.app.goo.gl/ggj67oxf8YwHTXsT6). There used to be an indoor-ish park (Rajamangala National Stadium--in an old airplane hangar) too, but not sure if it is still there. Bring an extra bearing or two because the grit of the city will bring 'em to a halt.

Rama VIII bridge spot is very fun. Would recommend going there around sunset, as that seems to be when most of the locals show up. There are lights there, so you can skate after dark. There’s also a famous ledge spot right there, but every time I went there were people sitting around on it.

Go to Preduce. There’s a little park there that you can skate for free, and the shop workers were really generous in giving me a bunch of spots to skate. Maybe watch their recent video and screenshot some spots that look interesting to you so that you can ask them specifically.

Hua lamphong has a really fun ledge spot that’s worth checking out.

RK diy is a bit out of the way, but easy enough to grab to.

Rama bridge has a couple fun ride on curbs and some waxed ones that you can slappy, but outside of that I’m not too sure about slappy spots in the city. Redbull park you could probably skip, imo, but that green triple bank between the stairs that has been in some videos recently is like a hundred meters from there. There’s also some random half pipe with some panels missing in the park where the redbull park is that’s pretty fun, though I only got about 15 minutes there before the police asked me to leave.

there's a few ledge spots and small rails around ekkamai, if you have a bike i'd recommend riding around as there's stuff everywhere!
