We’re going do this epic video and then they’re gonna turn me pro next. We had a plan and it felt good. Nobody was a dick. Sure, everyone had their own personalities, but there weren’t any of those small kooky cliques of dudes from one specific part of the States. None of that shit. Because, basically, it was all people from other countries living in the U.S. We fucking rip and that’s what we’re here to do. We’re gonna make an insane video. That’s our deal, and that’s what we did.

I just want everyone to know that I'm only 32.8% skateboarder, and that's on a good day. The rest is just soy and cum.

I remember a lot of those covers fondly. He’s had a lot
More of them than I can remember.

Pretty good read through. I wonder how things would have panned out if he got on Girl. Around what time might that have been? Early 10’s?

Great read. I'm sure we've all read the tired old 'your fav skater used to skate my local park' story but I'd be remiss not to include mine.
I started skating at age 12, pretty much right when my family immigrated to Canada and landed in this drab, shithole steel town where I had zero friends (Hamilton), and the local park was pretty small, run-down and intimidating (Beasley).
a friend showed me Sorry and it didn't take long for me to find out that everyone's hot, new fav skater was once a Beasley local, and that it's not the park but the attitude you bring to it, and that it's not the city but the relationship you form with it and 22 years later, I'm still here and have no intention of leaving.

That’s what it sounds like . I like his take on not getting on too. Essentially saying I’m not jumping through hoops just cause you’re girl . Common crailtap L not making an offer

Man he’s just always been the chillest. Hyped to see whatever footage he has. Would’ve been interested to hear his thoughts on Gillettes role at globe now

One of my favourite memories was when I was only skating for about a year, and Appleyard rolled up to a session in Toronto.  It was sometime around 1998-2000.  He just casually fired off tricks off the ledge and over the garbage can at Bay and Wellesley.  My mind was blown seeing what was possible on a skatebaord.  I didn't know much about style at that time, but I knew he had it.

Lengthy read but it was worth it.

He was a big influence on my formative skating years and is the main reason I learned nollie tricks on flat and on ledges.

It was really interesting reading about his dynamic with Geoff, Arto and Penny. Also completely forgot about that petty ad that Flip put out when he left for Element.

Has Appleyard ever talked about his flat ground 360 flip in photosynthesis?

Yeah, I was surprised there wasn't much Globe talk as it was crazy to me and my friends when he joined them and he has been on there for so long and was the face of the brand for so long (and has seen so many different eras of it).

I vaguely remember years ago hearing that he signed like a 10 or 12-year contract with them, which was absolutely unheard of.

maybe they thought ‘we have enough Canadians’

Thoroughly enjoyed. His Tampa am story is wholesome.

Appleyard is the dude your girl leaves you for and you're just like "ya I can't really blame you, well played."

Yeah it was intriguing how he said "some of them might've had some egos or bad attitudes about it," which I took to mean that some of them definitely had egos or bad attitudes toward it. Just wonder who, though. Koston? Ionno

Great interview as usual from CBI!

When Sorry came out, I watched it pretty much every day. His part (like many others in Sorry) is still great, gnarly and he makes it look easy. Love the "FUCK YEAH" after the smith grind.

Only dude I ever fanned out and HAD to leave all my shit just to shake his hand and thank him for so many years of inspiration. He was super cool about it. It was at a contest full of respected pros around but he was my dude  :D

Why Koston?   Skaters seem to love hanging around him.   Crail still hang out in a members only club house while Sam Smyth admits he gets off on letting potential skaters dangle in the wind

Personally glad he didn’t join Girl bc he wouldn’t have had the same stoke pushing him to crush it to get his SOTY years.   Outside of Koston, I can’t really think of anyone who sustained or even elevated their abilities while on Crail (and injuries to factor in)

BA wasn’t on Anti-Hero until like 2016. He was on Girl until like 2013, then left to do 3D.

I don't know. Not throwing shade, I can see Koston being intimidated by Appleyard since they both had the tech-gnar factor at the time.

Yeah I guess I was kinda thinking the undeveloped guys brought on like Apples would have been, like Biebel as you said, but I was never really into Bubbles skating so I never really charted that rise.

Amazed he liked his song in Extremely Sorry. I still feel the world is owed an apology, or at least a rough cut of the video, for that Baron soundtrack.
