I just started skating his Wayvee colorway and that shoe is so fucking good. Skated great right out of the box and fits so comfy.

Is that unique to just Vans though? Or could you skate a great pair of Nikes right out of the box?
For someone w.no signature ur awfully hostile, & that is why I do this

Skates great out of the box=floppy before it's time is up. I actively look for shoe reviews that say it takes awhile to break in.

Funny enough, the vans skate classics that everyone complains about always stays stiff for me. They have a hard shank in the sole or something that keeps it from flopping for me over other vulcs.

If he really cares about his fits as much I think he does, he won’t go to NB
[close]

they'll make a shoe catered to him, the tom Knox shoes aint that bad for him , although nb has bad politics but whatever
[close]
can you elaborate on bad politics?
[close]

One of their vps was praising trump years ago and they got some bad publicity. But given they’re one of the only big shoe companies who still manufacture in the us I’d say they’re at least pro worker to an extent which is better politics than 99% of us corporations.
[close]

Most NB’s are made in China.

Has NB built a skatepark anywhere?
Vans has.
Check in with yourselves.
[close]

Ah yes, Vans.  The corporation that frequently opens up skateshop’s down the street from skater owned skateshops.  Truly “off the wall” behavior.
[close]

Post an example shoeboi.
[close]

They do it to every shop with an account that does well that doesn’t have a vans store near by. Longs in maine and one of the eastern boarder locations are two I know about, both closed within months of the vans store opening
[close]

Did they live and die by Vans? There’s no way in hell shops are closing due to their Vans sales being down.

Yeah, this doesn't pass the smell test. If your local can be put out of business by a Vans store, there was a lot more going on.

Not unique to Vans. I'm just saying that I like the shoe, a lot, in a thread that is very anti-Vans lol. Nike and Adidas aren't my thing brah.

This is basically my experience too. Under the canvas/foam insole there's a wedge of hard rubber. Almost all other brands either don't have it or have a hollow rubber grid which I don't like as much.

Is this uniquely true for Vans, or do we think that Phil Knight fundamentally understands skateboarding?

My guy, the point is they might as well be the same at this point.

Doesn’t mean that your argument isn’t uniquely dumb.

The movie Air that just came out has a scene of Phil Knight watching the guy who disnigned the AJ1 popping some pretty nice kickflips in the company parking lot from his office.

Lol.  Saw that too.  Considering that film took place in 1984 that is pretty questionable historically.  Not only did that dude not actually skate (I’m guessing), how many people could even kickflip back then?  Rodney, Mark, Natas…?

The (many) skate classics I've had never got a hole in the sole, I think the hard rubber is to prevent that from happening, if you don't mind the hard rubber these shoes have been very durable

Can't even talk about an experience you had with a shoe without someone breaking their head through the door to act like you implied it's the only shoe you could enjoy

Totally.  I was thinking of this contest footy from 84, if you look at the comments Gonz himself points out the little ollie at :40 as noteable for that point in time - so yeah, I’m with you.

I was really into the look of this shoe, so much that I bought two pairs of them. I skated in one and I honestly cannot stand them. If anyone here is interested in a size 10 (no box, but never worn) I’ll sell them for about half of the retail I paid.

I loved the AV Classics and had those in a few different colors. Hope they keep making them. The AVE Pro's are very comfortable. Will provide update after I skate them.

Yeah. I was gonna say that Gonz and Natas weren’t doing kickflips until 1986-87 at the very earliest.

I don’t know about that.  I believe that Jason Lee footage where he’s doing backside kickflips to tail on curbs is probably 87.  I think Sal maybe had even kickflipped into wall rides by 87 or 88.  Gonz and Natas were probably doing them on street by 84, or 85 at the latest

So, Mullen was doing them in 1983, but stationary. It's possible then that Gonz or Natas were trying them rolling by 1984 but there's just no way they would have been commonplace.

This is some real "pushing my glasses up my nose" energy, but they should have just had some dude doing some sick street plants in the parking lot or something. Surely Mike V could have taken a break from his Black Flag tour.

Wasn’t the first kickflip backtail in video days? That would be filmed in ‘89 at the earliest. Kickflip wallride in 87? Def gonna need a source on that one. Wild and fuckin rad if so.

The line where he reveals he was skating because he’s  having a midlife crisis got a massive laugh in the theater, while a small salty tear dripped from one of my eyes.

Damn, that’s sick.  Also looks like another Franky colorway on the table, the outdoor looking brown one, except the N looks bigger on that model so not sure.

And what shoe is Reynolds holding??
