The women's contests are getting better and better every time. They are super competitive and there are always new names on the list.

Arisa was killing it the who time. She did a mctwist and a varial mctwist in the same run, with a rodeo 5.

As a whole, Vert Alert was great.

I've found myself enjoying the women's competitions far more than the men's.
Not only because I'm constantly being shocked by how fast it's progressing, but...at the risk of sounding cheesy...they really embody the spirit of skateboarding (for lack of a better term)
The women's contests could almost pass as just a group of friends having a park session.
They're so genuinely stoked for each other, that sense of camaraderie in skateboarding is refreshing to see these days.

Talking about camaraderie. Check out an Instagram account called BBAskateclub. They are a club of women who skate and it’s my favorite account. I know them because we are the same age. They are not doing McTwists by any means. Their members are at different levels. Some of them are beginners and some of them are pretty good. This is a side of Japanese skateboarding which is never portrayed in interviews or videos. If you are looking for gnarly tricks this is not your account but if you want to know how Japanese people enjoy skateboarding beyond the stereotypes.

Generally it's the odd spins start regular and the evens fakie.
I think maybe the idea is you pop fakie then do an extra hard 540, which most very skaters can do, so not sure if it works when you then have to do an extra hard spun 720.
  I think it was Gui who recently did a nollie 900 but I'm not sure if a switch 720 has even been done yet (altho it would be grabbed with the wrong hand and spun frontside anyway so not quite the same logic)

Definitely different than the vert golden age. For one, a lot less flatbottom for sure so they are able to keep speed to chain multiple 540s etc without having to do a bunch of backside airs to get speed. I think this is a case where computer assisted design along with vert ramps being constructed and then torn down relatively quickly for contests and expos have helped smooth out what a vert ramp needs to be.

Tony Hawks vert ramp is 22 years old, the other standard competition vert ramp design is 14 years old. The other one, the one you might see at XGames or see tour is bigger and generally people go bigger on it. The reason vert is progressing is there are new skaters. There is the biggest amount at the moment since vert died in 1991
