Why would anybody buy Jamies shoes, dont mean to be so mean...... with Last Resort killing it so hard (best shoe company in the industry imo).

Someone tell him Tony Fergusons' Rone brand is already doing the premium leather shoes for older skaters thing better than Jamie ever could and he didn't need a glaringly obvious infomercial nine club to do it.

Watched 3/4 of the nine club so far

This seems like a passion project where the desire to be creative and take a huge financial risk doesn’t align with some of story being told.

The glaringly obvious point that many people have mentioned is the existence of last resort, which organically and without any sort of weird industry push, is seemingly doing the same thing better regardless of the materials / More personality, a team, ACTUAL association with Europe (lol).

There seems to be a generational delusion here that a customer who would pass up last resort would move towards this brand just because of their high quality and tie in with different collabs and story telling.

While this seems like a cool portfolio piece and marketing experiment, I do think that this “white space” as he calls it in the industry has already been filled. Honestly I hope he succeeds because I like when skater owned companies do, but we need to be honest with what we’re being sold.
[close]

I also listened to a decent amount of this Nine Club because I hate Jamie Thomas.

Found it hilarious that he essentially described wanting to do exactly what Last Resort has already done with their product offerings (but without paying a skate team) but presented it as a novel idea and then never mentioned Last Resort during the interview and instead referenced Hours is Yours as the other company currently filling this niche.  Dudes narcissism has him fully fried.

When he followed up with the whole no one’s doing artists collabs I audibly cackled .as if the majority of shoes brands haven’t been near exclusively doing collab shoes the past 4 years. This dude is so fried . If he truly went to therapy over his shit business decisions he needs to get a refund cause dude has learned absolutely nothing.

Look pretty clean tbh. Will wait for sale rack
Judging by the generic-ass looking product they’ve been showing thus far, you won’t have to wait for very long.
Rather underwhelming launch as far as product design.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

It felt like he shared how much of his own money he is putting into this to get sympathy purchases.
This brand is for people who love expensive knives and worn jeans.
Also the softgoods look nice but I’m not sure they match the feel of the brand.

Ha ha, too true! Unfortunately, therapy is only as helpful as a person is honest.

Man’s gonna have brand ideas on his deathbed. It’s not bad to be creative in that way, however Jamie is intentionally ignorant of the market and world around him. Dweeb.

He’s a workhorse, which good for him, but I feel like we get an interview about how he’s changed every five years, turned over a new leaf n all that. And then for every brand he dumps or sells of, a new one is right around the corner.

I thought it was weird how at the start of the podcast it was core skate company and then towards the middle kept pushing being a “life style brand” or whatever and not just for skating. So is he trying to use skate shops til he doesn’t need them anymore?

He did seem to get annoyed at Chris Robert’s which I thought was funny.

I ain't about to watch this dingus talk about his redundant new shoe company for three hours but he honestly thinks this is gonna take off as some sort of lifestyle brand and dudes who wear straight cut selvedge denim and beanies above their ears and own a coffee shop and collect vinyl are gonna be walking around in their Warsaw shoes and crewnecks?

Never heard of it despite totally being of the demographic. Maybe they should pony up the dough for a Nine Club episode after all. :D

Nah rone is pretty cool. They have nice mules and relatively decent prices for the quality. They’re a different market than straight skate shoes but have had a few skate inspired shoes, I think they did a little Koston 1 homage a few years back and more recently a collab with nb on the 1010 with higher quality materials.

Glaringly obvious he’s taken reference from Last Resort but never mentions them and mentions Hours instead lol. Doesn’t mention the popular European brand but will happily take the name of his brand from a European city. Ew.

fuck jamie thomas but this is the nth time i've seen this narrative where yall are trying to make direct connections between the name "warsaw" and the holocaust. yeah a lot of it did happen in poland and there was a concentration camp in warsaw but it was (and still is) the fucking capital so is it really that surprising that they built one there? nah this motherfucker was probably like "warsaw is a joy division song and it's also like a combination of war and saw". obviously the song itself is about ww2 but i doubt that that was why he settled on it. maybe the warsaw uprising inspired him? nah that's probably not it either, i'm almost certain it's from the joy division song.

if he really wanted the nazi vibe he'd call it kl warschau or fucking auschwitz, yall are reaching just to shit on the dude and it's not like i want to help his case but it's irritating to read, sounds like yall think it's a little village with a concentration camp in it but shit's older than the usa, there's a lot more history to it than just ww2.

the name may be a little tone-deaf but i would never make this connection in my head

i mean, i don't think ian curtis was a fascist but joy division was obviously fascinated with fascist imagery so don't just rip them off for your brand in 2024 if you're not prepared for a handful of "hmm, a little weird!" comments

Dude, he clearly chose the name based on the Joy Divison connection. Which is drenched in reference to Nazis. The song “Warsaw” isn’t *about* WW2, it’s about Rudolf Hess’s overtures to England to join the Axis powers and subsequent imprisonment in England.

There is straight up no other reason Jamie chose that name aside from the Joy Division reference. You are out of your mind here.

I knew people hated Jamie Thomas a lot but damn, I didn't think I would see the day where people would insist he was a Nazi sympathizer.

I don’t think anyone thinks he’s a Nazi anymore than they think Joy Divison is a Nazi band - which is to say, not at all.
But it makes Jamie come off as blinkered, ignorant, and extremely tryhard to name his company after a 46 year-old punk song about Nazis and the holocaust and not think people would make a connection. It feels like he just likes that song and has no idea what it’s about.
