The only story Jamie is telling is I hate having a boss. You don’t get points for giving your brand a backstory because every brand since like 2001 has done that.

I ran some basic numbers off his 9club interview WITHOUT MOLD COSTS and it honestly doesn't seem sustainable. Without even ground level competition info against the companies he's inevitably competing with he would need a huge demand from buyers.

TLDR; he buys 4,000 shoes for his first drop and sells 1,440 shoes to retail. He's stuck with 2,560 pairs to sell online. This is not the right business model for any new footwear brand.
You've also helped explain how Proper has the lovely Cinex on their site in a size 11 and no other size for many years. You can easily wind up getting stuck selling or sitting on the dregs of your inventory until the end of time.

he kept on reiterating the point that he wanted to make understated simple shoes that one could wear to a nice dinner reservation or wedding but the black high top has a pretty big garish logo right on the ankle area, doesn't exactly scream subtlety to me

[close]

Haven’t seen the shoes.

I thought that was a Bunt logo?!?
I actually would have preferred a little orange alien or whatever Ed calls them. Like 1” high on the heel.

Like the dunk “charms”

Or the eye. Sure.

Just a nice stitching.
Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.

Huh? That is the eye with 6 6 pointed lighting bolts around it.

Forgive me.

I’m mumbling through text.

I’m saying the eye on the shoe is fine. Sure. I just prefer smaller and nicely stitched with color.

Even though these shoes aren't exciting, glad to see a skater owned, home grown brand pop up. At least someone is trying? I'm gonna give JT some time to sort it out but won't be purchasing this drop.

What I'd like to see is a better logo/brand identity/brand story. Also hoping the next few drops will be more exciting with some better colorways, etc. Thinking this first drop is just introducing the silhouettes and feel of the shoe hence the black and white colors.

He mentioned on the nine club his attention to the insole which i think is cool. for example everyone buys those hideous On Running and Hoka shoes because of the comfort over Nike, vans, etc.

Biggest thing for me on all this is seeing cooler branding. In theory War Saw is a cool name but I can't get over it sounding like a Polish brand. And the logo is boring looking. Understated is good but I don't care much if the brand identity doesn't excite me.

I too love Last Resort’s and the VM001 have been both the skate & lifestyle shoe of choice right here for years.

I don’t love reading anything about the company per se but those are some great regular ass shoes.

The shoes in the above photos look as stupid as a shirtless Jamie Thomas marketing them.

I find it funny that he fancies himself the sole designer for this brand. Every single thing about this brand is uninspired and amateur, but JT attempts to obfuscate this via the crutch of "minimalism". There is nothing original that jumps out about this brand. Each product he offers already exists in multiple forms and price-points in the market already. His "story" angle that revolves around artists feels to me like a poor man's version of RVCA's Artist Network Program known for working with artists and musicians (including Ed Templeton)

- The logo is similar to any vector minimal logo you'd pull off a stock image website. It also reminds me of a rotated version of the Matix logo.

- He brags about stealing tech packs and former work from real designers; and yet the shoe design is unoriginal, bland, and while I appreciate the lack of gaudy logos there is no real defining feature that separates these in a sea of sameness.

- The fleece looks like he snagged some blanks from Independent Trading or LA apparel and had some logos embroidered onto them. Talking about how the French Terry is not pre-washed like it's some kind of design feature was laughable.

- The chino pants are the most generic "I'm starting a skate clothing brand" go to. Think of the hole in the market for black and olive green chino pants. You can't find those anywhere, nobody makes them. Then to top it off he adds spandex to them, channeling more of that Matix energy. I am sure he just stole the specs and fit from Roark and is trying to pass them off as some revolutionary product.

- The headwear pieces are blanks that he took to a local embroidery shop or whatever to have his logo added and label sewn in. I am sure there is a ton of demand for a black acrylic rib cuff beanie with a label. Surely nothing like this exists in the market currently.

- The colour palette. I get it you're going for the minimal monochromatic thing, but at least if the brand had some kind of signature color you may have a better chance of building equity and brand recognition in the market.

Sorry for the long winded post I probably overanalyzed this more than I needed to.

Too right, good sir or madam.
However, in this case temperature was NOT a mitigating factor.
Rather, Ed had invited one Mr. William Strobeck over to get a preview of the 1st drop and, well…
Let’s just say that things progressed from there in typical Strobeck fashion & next thing you know, it’s shirts off & cameras out.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

I don’t believe for a second the shoes aren’t just rebranded Straye shoes and there is no way the quality is any different based on the pics I’ve seen.
This would also line up with everything else being a re-branded blank as I doubt Jamie has done any of ground work to set up any sort of manufacturing for this brand.
I also suspect this is just another investment/brand for Angel Cabada and a “silent” expansion of the Straye brand… but I obviously could be wrong.
