Pole Jams
« on: November 03, 2023, 03:19:50 AM »
Just found a good polejam spot nearby but I've never attempted one before. What's the best approach/technique?  Any tips or advice on how to avoid things going wrong are very welcome too.

Depends how steep or mellow, either way; enough speed is key.

They can be a little tricky where the steepness and technique transitions from a wallie movement to a ride-on/ride up a bank.

Its mostly about getting a feel for the specific polejam, after you get it once its easy

This is more for steep pole jam (and steep wallie too) where you go off the end not off the side.
you probably want a medium speed. Too slow and you won't go off the end (and will be in the danger zone) too fast and the jolt will be too much (altho once you've learnt it you can figure out how much faster you can go)
You probably want to be able to jump over the pole pretty easily. Even practicing hippy jumps where you first suck up your front leg and then your back will help too.
I basically hit the pole head on and guide the front truck up with my front foot.( Barely lift before the pole and def Do not Ollie.) Then with my backfoot I really drive the board up the pole and then suck both my legs up as much as possible. You're now in the air like you've done a big Ollie. Land.
