Brand owners that went in
« on: December 09, 2023, 07:52:54 AM »
Re watched Austyn Gillette’s Out There yesterday. He said his Radiant Cure part was trying really hard for Former to “validate the brand and show that it’s not just a lifestyle brand”. Which got me thinking… what other skaters started brands and then stepped up to the plate and filmed a great part to help with the launch?

I know Herrington isn’t super popular on the boards here but his Chrystie Chapter 1 part is one of my favorites.
You can tell he really pushed himself for that one.

Not necessarily a great part but I'd say Pontus really put a lot of effort into polar with all their early videos.

Not his best part but Jamie Thomas hucked some big shit in thrill of it all and again for ride the sky (altho that was a good while after fallen launched)

Jensen had a sick part in vase for isle and a lakai/isle ad/part thing right after

I'd say Reynolds has been pretty prolific with Baker. I don't think he's ever half-assed anything for his brand.

The perfect answer. I liked that he didn't give himself last part even though it was a given in all the Powell vids.

I know Herrington isn’t super popular on the boards here

Care to elaborate?

I’ve noticed in quite a few threads that more than a few people aren’t fans, that’s all.

I think one could argue any skater who starts a brand and then continues produce footage qualifies:

  • Tyshawn got SOTY last year based on his parts he filmed to launch King.
  • Cody Mac did a video for Snake Farm, right?
  • Shane Heyl being having clips in every Shake Junt full length
  • Both Greco and Ellington having amazing parts in the first Deathwish Video
  • Shanahan for Pangea Jeans over and over again
  • Carroll and Howard in the early Girl videos

I think a more significant list to compile would be Brand Owners That Refused To Go In;
Pros who start a company, keep themselves pro, but refuse to film any serious footage to promote the brand.

Like Koston and Guy for Numbers, Staba for Skatemental, Bryan Herman for his Hours is Yours shoe company... I'm sure there are tons more.

Some I'd have to do a little research: Did Pudwill ever release any parts for Grizzly? Or Thank You? Or has Haslam made anything for whatever his company is called? Did Dill ever film anything for FA?

And where are we landing regarding Julien and Antihero?

I’ve definitely read threads where people say he’s overrated and shouldn’t be pro etc. but that was a while ago, maybe the tides have changed.
